One person catching a lot...

Just thinking someone you had worked out the random calculator and flooded requests the exact time a domain was dropping how long would the ban be.
On the create side could only send 1000 if you didn't even bother querying the DAC.

You wouldnt get a ban, because no one in their right mind would send 1001 requests when 999 stops you getting a 24 hr ban.

Fact is, Denys and some others are Premier League, they know the game inside out and probably would not b able to comprehend most of the questions about catching in this thread as they are far too basic.

Spend 6k on server and network membership making you a host, and you can catch lots too!

Caz I'll say it again you could have the best server and script in the word how would it would stop someone else getting in during the very minimum 54ms sleep period between polls.
Given the hundreds of tags chasing can somebody honestly tell me Denys run makes sense statistically just by tweaking a script/connection fractions of a ms beter than everyone else

I'm not saying that you would send 1001 on accident but if you new exactly what time a domain would drop would you not just do it and take your ban to get the best name every day or so.

What I'm asking though what are the restrictions on the DAC is it the same 24 hour ban or less the first time you send more than 17+ requests a second

I've only been catching since January this year.

Denys used to do ok, I wouldn't have put him at the same level as a grantw or dropsystem

Something changed these last few weeks, he is suddenly romping out in the lead all on his own.

He is doing something/or knows something different than everyone else, his results prove that.

"The maximum query rate is 1,000 queries per rolling 60 seconds recalculated every 5 seconds and a maximum of 432,000 per rolling 24 hours, recalculated every five minutes."

There is no 24 hour ban for dac queries, you just get blocked for the amount of time you've gone over the limit, whether that's going over on a rolling basis or by hammering it over the limits above. In theory you can send 1000 queries in 5 seconds and then sleep for 55 seconds without getting blocked.

Cheers Grant

I Guess he doesn't know when things are dropping as you would just query over the limit for the few second either side of your predicted drop time and take a few seconds block if your wrong.
Begs the question then why does he not always but most of the time only take one premium on days when there is more than one.

Fair play to the guy. he's got everyone over a barrel at the moment. Just glad dropsystem got dodds for me amongst it all, as I'm pretty sure he went for that. Alpha.co.uk is a lovely catch, had high hopes as I had it covered at most public catchers :(

but the question is will todays maintenance level things out again :)

I don't even catch names, and yet it now seems bloody obvious he's rumbled something. Is it so fundamental to the algorithm that even Nominet are struggling to counter it at the moment?

We don't know whether Nominet are actually trying to counter it or even if they care...

I think I would tbh, it looks like their release system has been compromised...

I've been reading this thread for the past little while, most interesting that there is a chance the underlying system can be beaten.

The whole drop-catching idea is quite strange, but hey who's to complain.

However, it would seem that he either didn't want, or at least he didn't catch today's highest volume keyword domain.

Another one bites the dust. Denys have you ever considered early retirement? I think you've earned it. :)

When nominet announce large registrars will be allowed to take control and auction off expiring domains the only person it will really be a blow to is Denys since he catches everything.
