That isn't what the board communique says though.
I can't help notice that most of my reservations have disappeared because Nominet have adopted large chunks of the alternative proposal I put forward last year, including the revised pricing and release mechanism.
When somebody proposes "A" and you counter-propose "B" and you end up with "very far from A, pretty close to B" it's hardly surprising that it's much less objectionable.
The argument last time around that businesses having costs forced upon them if .uk happens (for rebranding, etc) hasn’t gone away has it?
Seems a really bad deal for all the people who have paid a lot of money on domainlore recently for a .co.uk, not naming any domains, but the majority of .org.uk are older.
So do you see that as an acceptible compromise, full stop, for the millions of businesses who have already built their online businesses around the co.uk
and who still stand to have to fork out millions more to rebrand, you know, all the things you were championing before the trademark issue was put to bed.
Most have been taken though. Just take a look at the recent high sales on domainlore.Only if the .org.uk and .me.uk of the domain being drop-caught are taken. If they're still available, then it's good news for drop catchers because their brand new .co.uk will still end up older than any subsequent registration.

The Board also noted the impending launch of the new gTLDs, which were anticipated to have a significant impact on the domain market.
The Board agreed that it was therefore increasingly important to ensure the ongoing relevance of the .uk portfolio.................................."
No very bad news for many like yourself and surely now with the news today, big sales on domainlore for premium drops catches are going to not be worth nowhere near as much for the foreseeable future.A bad deal for folk that have drop caught these past years too.
I would lose out with create_co_uk as one example.and it's paid up to 2022 jez what was I thinking. Registrants that have renewed 10 years out haven't done well by this.
As long as it benefits Edwin, its all ok now. All the previous points he made previously, giving a good show about caring about the rights of others and small businesses are out the window now![]()

Take a hike. I mean, really!
I defy anyone who was at the Nominet meetings to support such ludicrous character assassination.
My whole proposal was crafted from first word to last to support as many of the rights of "others and small businesses" as was feasible, given the number of competing interests - and a lot of it in detriment to our own business position.
Now that it stands far more in YOUR favour, you just seem to have changed your tune a fair bit. Sorry that it comes across that way.
Guys lets stay on topic, we are all better than that. Deep breaths.
Reread my proposal. Please. Then tell me where I'm being inconsistent*
*or I'll save you the time: I'm not.
BTW, I posted at the time that we stood to lose under my proposal (we drop caught thousands of names over the last few years) as well as gain, but that it remained the fairest way of doing things for the widest number of widely-differing interest groups. It would have been HUGELY more self-serving to propose that .co.uk owners automatically get all .uk domains, but that's not what I put forward.
If you have problems with the revised proposal, be smart about it and go and pick on Nominet. I'm not the one you have to "fight"!
I will say this one last time. Really THE LAST.
Now that it stands A HUGE AMOUNT CLOSER to my proposal, I seem to have changed my tune?!
Surprising? No. Completely normal. It's a lot closer to my proposal, after all. Anything else would be inconsistent. No tune changing of any kind. My position hasn't changed - Nominet have (for the large part) come around to it.
I'm not fighting with you, and I'm not questioning your intelligence, I'm just questioning your integrity on this issue.
