September .uk drop discussion

Christ, what a mess. I hope this isn’t as bad as you guys think. It’s criminal if your worst case has been occurring.

This sniffs of member of staff at Fashost imo. Waiting until last minute and authorising internal transfers

Has any member on here actually successfully done this and transferred the domain away and prepared to admit to it?

Yes it was done with Hunts.uk but who the person was i dont know but hunts was one of the most recent ones... People above have said you need support staff to refresh the process for instant results but live chat at Fasthosts are out of office so you have to wait for the queue to be processed programmatically.

I can also confirm that this works, although I haven’t renewed the domain so it will still drop today

Keen to see what happens going forward.

What are people's views on the .uk extension? I always preferred the .co.uk but after staring at the .uk drop lists for the last couple of weeks I think i'm starting to prefer it. It does look a lot cleaner. Doesn't roll off the tongue as well as .co.uk though. Have any of your views changed on the .uk extension this September?

Preferred .uk from day 1. Just waiting for the rest of the UK to agree.

I've transfered in 6 names to test if it works, one of them was Egypt but that then dropped and went elsewhere, so didn't work. I also had jams.uk on the transfer in but that dropped but I manged to pick it up with my script, so that didn't work either. I spoke to live chat and requested a refresh but chat said that they were sending an email to contacts, that couldn't happen as in suspension period, so not sure how its going to go.

Is this what happened to hut.uk today?

It was renewed and the WHOIS said the registrant details were waiting to be verified. Now it says ''Nominet was not able to match the registrant's name and/or address against a 3rd party source on 11-Sep-2020"

@Siusaidh Can you confirm that you didn't source your Charlie.uk through this method? I think it's important seeing as many are considering voting.

LCHappy, I assure you I am no part of what some people are doing, which I confess I don't fully understand, but I think is part of an overall unravelling of the mass-registration of 2 million domains, dislocated from the supposed owners/registrants. My transactions in the case of the one domain are quite rightly confidential to the people involved, but (a) there is zero theft, and Fasthosts and Nominet are both party to the destination of the domain, with everything bound over by the agreement of the .co.uk holder - that is all deliberately on record (b) my specific transaction is not ultimately for myself, I have no financial involvement in it or profit from it, and indeed I have no personal interest in the domain myself, as both Fasthosts and Nominet know, and again, have on record (c) I have more I could say, but I should not say now. For sure the events of recent days illustrate a deeply flawed policy which I have gone to great lengths to call out, as most of you well know.

The one thing I regret is that it was definitely pissy that it happened on the last day, which was never intended. The mayhem being reported is a demonstration of how a mass-registration of 2 million domains shipwrecked the agreed 5-year policy and created domains that were not asked for. I have been saying this all along. Now I appreciate that any comment I make can be subjected to a kind of mob court of opinion, and in the current climate I do understand that. But I am saying absolutely nothing more. The facts: both Nominet and Fasthosts have documentary evidence that I have been absolutely committed to respecting all parties involved. My whole intentions are honourable and stealing nothing from anybody. I hope this will become clear. There is documentary evidence that this is the case, and I am very happy that there is in the circumstances!

Well whatever happens, I'd say this is the nail in the coffin for drop catching if it needed another nail. Nominet won't do a thing, fasthost won't do a thing and domainers will rightfully be accused of stealing not only domains, but other peoples personal information. Just want to hope that the previous owner of the name you've stolen doesn't pursue anything GDPR related.

LCHappy, I assure you I am no part of what some people are doing,

Thanks for clarifying it Suzanna, I thought it would be odd for you to be involved in this kind of business. It's your business how you got hold of the name and you clarifying this wasn't the method is enough for me.

btw I can confirm that the theory did actually work, opened an account, checked with support prior to completing and all worked, did not go after the most valuable but did register a few to test, at worst nom will reclaim from everyone and fasthosts give me my money back.
When transferring did you have to claim you were the domain owner?
