@ Rob F, I wrote something like, "This tag is for my own personal use, I don't have customers and have no plans to have any in the future".

Heard back from Nominet today and my tag is now a self managed tag.

+1

I put "Tag is for my own personal use only"

Just doing my first free transfer.

It's now the seller who fills in the new Registrant details so the onus is on the seller to collect that information and make sure it is correct. I'm sure there will be instances when I'd rather pay the £12!

Sounds a better way, especially with those 1&1 wankers not on-boarding transfers now. Copy and paste buyer details from Escrow account, easy.

Buyer's payment details aren't always those that are required for the new Registrant - and that's not easy to change post transfer.

Thinking about it more, if you have a self-managed TAG, the option to pay for the transfer doesn't exist. All transfers are free so the option to pay sounds daft.

You will have to ask for the details of the new Registrant, but as per my post above re creating a form, this is not really a problem.

Still getting errors on applying here - Nominet acknowledged a bug but not able to say when it will be fixed.

Wonder why it works for some and not others?

Stephen.

Looks like you can still pay by following the "Registrant Transfer" link at the bottom of the homepage - gives access to the "familiar" process.

Went through it with no issue. Received email;

Thank you for your application to classify the XXXXXXXXX tag as a Self Managed tag. This email is to confirm that we have received your application. We are reviewing applications in order of receipt and will come back to you with any questions we may have about your submission over the coming days.

At a guess...

It worked for the "simplest cases" (single tag, no or only a handful of 3rd party regs) and gradually as they get more complicated the bugs start to rear their ugly heads and Nominet's whacking each one as fast as possible.

Yes well problem is they know there are bugs but when you chat to them they go it will be fixed today blah blah when really they have no clue when it will be fixed....

Well I only have a single TAG so that's not the issue. About 20 accounts for names I look after for others but definitely qualify for self-managed.

Will report back with any news......

Stephen.

Went through first time for me. I made sure to merge all my domains first just incase that would cause an error.

If you want to offload them to my channel partner TAG whilst you change drop me a PM

Didn't see that so thanks.

Think I'll still stick with free transfers. We've asked for them for long enough so now we have them...

Ok - now working for me. Luckily it had already saved all the info. I typed in when I tried before so only took a couple of minutes to complete.

Stephen.

What's the score with these free transfers, am I doing it right?

I just did my first one, got to the bit where you choose "add new", added the buyers details and clicked to complete the free transfer, the domain now has the buyers details as the registrant in the Who-Is, but the domain is still on my tag, I assume the buyer now has to do something at their end to complete the transfer and put it on another tag of their choice?

Surely you can still do the TAG change (Release) same as before?

@ RedBird, yes, I can still change it to another tag or de-tag it, but I need to know what happens at the buyers end first, I don't want to do something at my end now and then it screws something up with the transfer

I'm confused the transfer is all done isn't it, there is nothing else to do unless I've missed something. I have my self managed TAG now but admit not done a transfer yet

Hi mate. You need to ask the buyer to request a transfer of the domain from their registrar, for example one can login to Domain Monster and request the transfer there, once this has done you just need to release the domain onto said registrar's tag using the good old release command.

@ Redbird, yes, that's supposedly the transfer completed, even though it's still on my tag.

@ DaveP, that sounds like a right load of faffing around, in future, I'll ask buyers what tag they want to use and I'll just do a tag change straight after the transfer, actually, better of just de-tagging names after transfer and letting buyers sort what they wont.

The buyer didn't receive anything from Nominet regarding the transfer, so I've told him I can either de-tag it and he can add a tag at his end, or let me know which tag he wants and I'll do a tag change at my end.
