I wonder, would a script that accepts Paypal payment for domains (so perhaps for cheap domains) that will auto transfer domains after payment has been received be of interest to anyone here? Of course would need to be absolutely ultra secure, but then one can use the Lock command to lock domains?

Ok even without that it's still possible but security would be a nightmare having epp password as a config setting on the script.

Just throwing ideas out there!

Ok, so I'm now fine with sending free transfers, and the buyer transfers it in to their registrar, but what happens when I accept a free transfer on to my own tag, does it just appear as a handshake in my Nominet account?

Free transfers are only to the same tag I thought we'd established?

You've lost me there, only to what same tag?

Afterwards it's just a straight forward tag change of which your tag would be the recipient.

I had another blonde moment lol, I completely mixed up in my head about transferring in like buyers have to do if they haven't got their own tag, so it will of course just show up as a handshake for me to accept.

The same self managed tag that the domain name is on, otherwise it's not going to be free surely or have I missed something?

Sorry, that's still not making any sense to me :)

When I transfer a domain, I fill all the buyers details in, they then transfer in the domain to their registrar, once they've done that, I do a tag change, finished. [edited to add] I've found that doing the tag change last isn't always correct, some registrars automatically accept tag changes on to their tag, others come up with an error when people try transferring the domain in, where it says, domain not on our tag, but as soon as I do the tag change, it goes on their tag.

When I accept a transfer, the seller puts in my details and then does a tag change, I then accept the handshake in my tag account, finished

Hmmm, something else I just though of, what happens if I buy a domain off someone who isn't a tag holder, how do they input my details before doing a tag change?

If you buy from someone with a Self-Managed TAG, they will transfer the name to you (the new Registrant) free of charge and then release the name to your TAG.

If your TAG is set up to automatically accept all transfers, the name will automatically appear in your TAG's account. If you manually accept each transfer in, it will need to be accepted before appearing.

If the seller isn't a TAG holder, the old way of doing a transfer with the £12 fee comes into play - unless the name is on a TAG of a Registrar who can offer a free transfer.

Could be a Self-Managed TAG because of the 5% / 50 rule or more likely an Accredited Channel Partner Tag. I'm guessing the latter will add the free transfer option to their Control Panels in due course or offer some other means of doing it (of course they don't have to offer free transfers to their customers).

There is a third option for Self-Managed TAGs, but I'm not sure if this is allowed.

If you bought a name from a non-TAG holder, you could ask them to simply release the name to your Self-Managed TAG and then you could complete the transfer yourself for free.

Does anyone know if this is allowed?

Ok, thanks, understood that :)

They do the normal transfer process and either they or you pays Nominet £12+vat.

Ahh, thanks, for clarification, I wasn't sure if something new came up in a non tag holders Nominet account to be able to input the new owners details with the new system.

Thanks also to Diablo.

Grey area because it's potentially considered using a self managed tag in order to get around the limits of a non self managed tag. I quoted something from the new T&C's elsewhere on this forum very recently directly relating to that. If I had a self managed and a channel partner tag and I tag changed any domain names held on the latter via the former in order to offer free transfers, is that much different?

I'll ask Nominet in the morning for clarification on this.

If they didnt have a TAG they cant release the domain they would have to pay to retag the domain....
