I'm hoping they start ALL of the auctions for ALL of the domains at exactly the same time and only allow one login per registrant :D

It will be interesting to see how it works in practice as that will impact the outcome.

Thus Nominet can instruct to either:
- raise lots of cash
- increase chance of a wider spread of names to owners

i don't think anyone could for .org.uk and .co.uk and at least 2 applicants in every case. if i'm wrong i apologise

.me.uk doesn't count imo. let them have them lol

"Nominet is currently reviewing the auction schedule with its auction partner, NFPA . Parties involved will be notified of the schedule, together with instructions for participation, directly by NFPA in the week commencing 27 June. Auctions are scheduled to start on 20 July. Due to the volume of auctions being held, it is anticipated that they will be held over several weeks during July, August and September."

Hmm...

i'm in an auction with 6 others (yes 6!!) for my .me.uk application

And how do TagNames (aka a hugh) expect to get away with all the .me.uk's.

It's a pity the application fee weren't set a bit higher and domains withheld as long as necessary to find a proper buyer.

Doubtless the .me.uk's will now be marked up by a factor of 50 or 100 and mostly never see the light of day.

Almost glad I couldn't be arsed to finish off the 20 or so I was going top apply for... got better things to do than :

a. Pay Nom £10
b. Spend hours in front of an auction (no proxy to do it for me)
c. Go all the way to £3k or £4k and then consider actually the domain isn't worth it so drop out after hours and realise a. was for nothing except their coffers.

This is not a dig, but I personally think this would have been better all round if there had been a limit on the number you can apply for (even if that was say 30 or 40), a slightly higher per domain fee maybe to focus the mind and c. proxy bidding for those people that want to go to the pub!

No doubt TN have a plan, but they are .me.uk's and the fact that they grabbed 464 uncontested does say something about their desirability.

I could see people paying perhaps £50 for one if they wanted their initials which does result in a nice profit of circa £16k if all of them managed to be sold, but I can't see anyone paying £500, but I guess you never know...

I went for my initials only but something has me stumped.

Now, I dont give a jot either way if I get them, but known Domainers have also applied for mine as well as many, many others.

Now, they must know my name, as I know theres and they will know that im going to four figures in an attempt to grab it.

Soooo, what was the point in them applying and wasting a tenner (wasting in the sense that they must know im going to try a little harder than most) rather than apply for those names that have 'unknowns' or companies listed as attempting?

do your initials spell a word? might have other value to somone else besides name...

Nope. No word. Just a couple of plain old letters thrown together.

Curse you Mother for not calling me Quentin.

did you consider legally changing your name? might have ended up costing less ;)

I only went for one and like I said, I have no feelings either way if I get it (Im sure I will pick a few up in the coming months anyhow)

I didnt think you could bulk book? Its a time consuming process AFAIK to apply for each individually, so they could have saved themselves 2 mins and a tenner on mine :D
