Landrush phase for .uk short domains now open

A great proportion of these .org.uk's aren't even registered in other ccTLD's. At the current auction prices I can't see the appeal. .org is not-for-profit after all.

Incidentally, this landrush process is going to provide the most accurate set of "comparables" ever, since entities that bothered to enter the auction process in the first place had free rein to bid on .co.uk and .org.uk names, so by the end of the whole process we will see exactly what a given .org.uk is worth compared to the identical .co.uk.

In fact, we should end up with over a thousand comparable sales data points and be able to determine very accurately the "value ratio" of the 2 extensions.

Be great if Nominet would post the data, but I doubt they will so we would have to rely on posters here I guess. Assuming the data isn't going to be in the public domain can it be used in promotional material which I guess is your aim?

I don't see why the RATIOS wouldn't be publishable even if the individual prices were kept confidential e.g. each domain name could be replaced with a 4 digit code (xxxx) - as long as the underlying data was valid the derived ratios should be equally valid, regardless of what the "xxxx" is in each case. Normalise the .org.uk price to 100 each time and there's even less information, yet the ratios are STILL valid!

So this might look like (code, normalised .org.uk price, normalised .co.uk price):
0001 100 2,750
0002 100 1,800
0003 100 5,500
0004 100 3,850
and so on

As long as each 4-digit code represents a matching .org.uk and .co.uk pair, the data's perfectly usable.

yep - went up pretty quickly thanks to my attempted strategy of securing it quick!
oh well, that's gone now :)

pr_org_uk £1,700
on_org_uk £1,010
mr_org_uk £1,010
ma_org_uk £1,500

did they finish on those prices or are they still in progress later today?

also did hr_org_uk finish?

just checked and a large number of org.uk domains from last wednesdays auction still not registered.... auction reruns? or just nominet taking its time chasing up non payments??

Should be interesting to watch, are these one or two character domains do you know?

Most are showing as reg'd now.

yep - just checked.

makes for some very interesting reading when you see who actually won some of these auctions (not the names I was expecting to see! also helps explain some of the prices!!! )

I've got a new tactic with these auctions now - once a batch finishes and I once again come away with nothing I go and buy a nice generic domain for less than I would have spent on the auctions :)

I have some tulips if you want to buy some, I hear they are more solid than gold!
