I want to donate a domain name to a homeless charity or foodbank etc but it's proving difficult as homeless charities don't understand domain names and I can't sell for toffee etc if a recognised UK broker wants to sell one of my domains and donate proceeds to a recognise homeless charity or recognised foodbank I am up for donating a domain name for this purpose

Maybe stick it up on one of the auction sites? If its a good domain it would sell. Then donate the cash ?

If you can't sell it, it's probably not worth the money your asking, which makes it almost certain that a broker will have no interest in it, putting a charity spin on it won't make any difference to that.

I understand your point and fair play but my experience with auctions isn't great eg sold a 5L .com at online auction with no reserve it got one bid of 99p and a out 4 very good new gtlds sold for not much more than £25 etc but no one really understands my domains etc but I have been investing in new gtlds since they were first issued in 2013 and even in 2022 most people couldn't list 10 new gtld extensions of the 1300+ new gtld extensions etc and even in the UK domain name space eg UK domains etc most still only think that UK domains are .co.uk and UK etc when new gtlds are uk domains too even domain name liquidation UK traditional auction houses don't even sell domains and UK pawnbrokers don't even lend against domains etc the traditional economy is decades behind the digital economy but most charity shops are closing traditional shops and selling on eBay etc and a person can sell domains on eBay so obviously charities can sell domains on eBay too?

but no one really understands my domains etc
If no one understands them then how are they going to be of value to anyone?

every domain name investor has their own investing strategy etc eg most UK domain name investors on here buy only .co.uk and .uk etc and many only buy expired domains etc I buy domains of my own tech concepts etc for reg fee example freecarparks .com grocerytakeaway .com etc and the domain I want to donate to a charity is homeless. events (new gtld) or would be happy to redirect my homeless. events to a homeles charity that holds events etc I also own homeless. cafe which would suit a homeless charity that provides a cafe for the homeless etc I only want to use my domains to make a difference to people helping the homeless and foodbanks which are my passions

homeless.events and homeless.cafe would surely only be of interest to charities helping the homeless. So a domain auction for these would likely not attract any bidders (can't imagine any homeless charity staff browsing domain auctions and the domains have no value for anyone else).

You could simply give the domains to a homeless charity. But whether they would actually use them or not is another matter. They might wish to have any events listed on their own website to draw attention to their own brand. And if it's just a small food bank they probably just use a social media page so wouldn't want the hassle and expense of having a website created.

I don't think they would be of interest. They are bad domains with awful extensions and no traffic. They would need a ton of money spent on them just to even get them showing up for anything. Nobody wants this headache. However even in a good extension with traffic there is likely to be little to no benefit to a homeless shelter. That is why you can't sell them or give them away. Nobody would be browsing the internet looking for anything they might have to offer. Homeless shelters tend to be funded locally by donations in the area. At least here anyway. I've dealt with many small charities over the years and they have all received money either from us or the church. The big charities don't cover many of them and the government doesn't give them anything. And big charities don't need these poor domains when they already have things in place.

You would have to be very lucky to find buyers for those names, broker or not. To be honest, there are countless better ways you can help the homeless and food banks than trying to give them domain names that will be of little or no value to them. Let the names drop and donate what you would have paid in renewal fees would be one.

I appreciate the feedback and as i own premium two keyword .coms 5 Letter .coms very brandable first name .surnames which are very rare as can only be available in a out 6 UK surnames etc and a out many 2 keyword and 1 keyword .xyz etc what do you think gets the most views in my account? beechhut .xyz bought for 80p and it has 1200+ parking visits in one year etc another popular domain name I own bev. gold new gtld it gets a lot of parking visits I bought it for £5 reg fee etc whois checks? privacysolicitors .com bought for about £10 it currently has 60+ whois checks but isn't for sale another? vloglawyer. com? currently has 60+ whois checks bought for £10 but not for sale etc truckvlogger. com bought for £10 currently has 60+ whois checks etc I own some of the world's best legal domains one of my domains that I pre registered back in about 2014 ish was sports. legal it was bought by one of the world's top 50 biggest legal companies worth £1b + I used to own crowd. finance which coingecko now use as a redirect in to their crypto currency index and i used to own sports .finance which is now used by chilliz a crypto currency coin all of these companies bought new gtlds not .co.uk or .UK etc

Every now and then someone wanders over from namepros. No punctuation. Long rambling sentences about premium 5 letter domains (that are worthless). Never any mention of earnings, income, or sales. Always 'estibot' and 'whois checks' etc. Of course the really good ones are 'not for sale' because as domainers we just like to look at them. This whole post is really some kind of odd attempt to self-stoke an ego by claiming to want to give something to charity that nobody wants to buy.. or even for free'. I should have known better.

I base my domain strategy on the same strategy that one of the world's most successful domain name investor's uses which works etc the UK domain name industry will change if one company based in the UK enters the domain name space because it has all the end users that only buy from this company and it already has its own auction platform etc - I know nothing about domains? I know emoji and internationalised domain xn-- code format as I have owned a few emoji domains and I have owned a few .co.uk and .UK back in the day I own .com and new gtld and all of the domains new gtlds are better than .co.uk and .UK but as I live in the UK that makes a UK domain name investor which is why I like to keep up to date with the UK domain name space etc

And yet you have to ask how to give away a domain..... yep a true expert. Anyway I assume you have some figures to show how successful you are? I mean actual dollars and cents. Not 'visitor stats' or 'whois clicks' or anything useless like that. You say you owned a few emoji domains. Did you sell them? Any newsworthy? Also you made a point earlier telling us how your domains weren't for sale and yet the *parked* page says otherwise. Where is your development? Where are your sales? In fact I'll make it easy for you with one question. What has your biggest success been?

domain name investing is only about buying and not selling - I don't want to sell any of my domains (everyone's domain name portfolio is different as is their strategy) mine is to buy and not to sell which is the best way to sell eg a person has to want to own a domain name more than the domain name owner that enjoys owning it etc which is the strategy I use based on 43 years finding numberplate words in UK personalised number plates and UK personalised plate companies are entering the domain name space and they have deep pockets and know to to run an aftermarket website etc

All the original thread was about is how can people donate ornaments and art to a charity that they sell on eBay but they don't accept domain names which can also be sold on eBay etc

Well, you're not wrong. Same with anything in sales, you've gotta sell the sizzle not the sausage.
I know the principles of direct sales and the closing techniques etc but I have no interest in direct sales or outbound marketing etc I prefer it when I get an enquiry and say no which gives the potential buyer the choice to go away and find another domain or increase their offer either way I could care less because most of my domains are not for sale as I enjoy owning them
