OK, maybe my valuation was a little on the low side, the domain does have some potential, but you will see the scale of the difference in potential between hire.co.uk (which has excellent potential) and stolen.co.uk (which I'm less bullish on, but still some value) from the Overture top 10s:

car hire 39,170.1 /day
cheap car hire 26,516.4 /day
van hire 6,924.4 /day

I know what your saying and I agree, I've been an full-time affiliate for over 7 years now and all my sites are to do with affiliate sales. But I think long term, sites that offer a service will all ways be more attractive to the big buyers, especially if you can capture personal info from your users. These type of sites also do well in the search engines because people love to link to them, I'm sure I could get most police websites to link to it for instance if it is done well. When you have sites like this there are many ways to generate revenue, but yes as a stand alone domain name it's value without a site would be less than the others, but the potential is as good I believe.

crazy just gone of domain researching and the first name i checked was industrialcleaning.co.uk blimey you get around paul :)

Lovely name once again - even thou we are not apprasing :)

PRSS time ....;)

Yeah I've had a busy year, and quite expensive :)

The way I see it tho is now, is a great time to buy. Every penny I make from domain sales plus any earnings from parking goes straight back into buying more names.

Thank god i read this thread further on,

I read the first few posts earlier in the week and thought you'd picked them up after drop catching.

I was going out to hire a script programmer from somewhere if they are coming back up.

I don't feel so bad now,

but great names mate, nice one

I wouldn't focus mainly on the Satellite site being for Sky only. They have a good pay out but that's only because their conversion is meant to be pants. Of course, with a generic like this, you could clean up...!

Remember that there is a lot happening on freesat at the moment, which will also have affy sales via the electronics box shifters.

These are GREAT names.

I've got weddingretailers.co.uk & weddingretailers.com which I want to do up at some point. Weddings is a BIG market.

Again are you on drugs?

They have a great pay out rate because their conversion is meant to be pants??????????????

They pay £50 - £65 because a customer signs a years contract which means that they earn based on a £40 subscription every month £480 per year.

So there paying for new customers at a rate that equates to someone sending them customers.

Companies presume that customers will be there for more than a year and also that they will use added features and shop online using the shopping channels.

So its nothing to do with low conversion rates why they pay £50 - £65 at all.

On drugs again? Maybe you're confusing me with someone else? Don't think I've ever been on the end of one of your retorts.

I was just going by what others say: http://www.affiliates4u.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59777

From one of the bigger affiliates: "Despite all of the above Sky isn't a great convertor".

From the network (buy.at) : "All parties are working hard to try to get Sky to convert better than it is"

And currently they have a great big telephone number on the landing page. One way to kill commission.

So I would say that the high-ish payout *is* linked to a crappy conversion rate. If the network/merchant could get away with less, they would. The payout has no relationship to the end-user price, which is why some merchants pay 2% other pay 12% for teh same thing. They get away with what they can.

Thanks for the link Steve, good read, hope they sort the landing page out cos it looks shite :)

I have a wedding domain as well which I was surprised to get but it's one of those two word match ups that you can fit with most shopping generics. Re satellite, it's your domain, you bought it you come up with the goods BUT forget the tv packages, go where the money is and GPS, include everything, you could even map the current satellites in orbit, follow their moves and have a moving cgi model which would get world wide media attention and the visitors in and could probably be done on the cheap via freedom of information act and a few thousand pound to get the model and do the db entry yourself - and that's just the tip of possibilities.

I'm not starting doing this again, I always gave my ideas away. Ha but the latter will get you money, forget the telly but include all satellite related somehow and you won't go far wrong. If you need ideas, then my fee is £350 a consultation, you just got one free, remember that for future please. haha

Cheers
Lee

Your just a muppet Sky have been paying £50 - £65 for years its nothing to do with conversion ratios why they are paying £50 - £65.

Sky is a low conversion simply because of their marketing so a lot of people phone up the number on the leaflets that fall through the door or they phone the number on the tv adverts or other advertising methods.

Sky is a low conversion rate simply because its a very well known brand and people know how to apply direct.

Yes sometimes a network will have problems with tracking or someone at a merchants end will think, lets knock off the tracking for x amount of time and see what we can get away with.

Also some companies use the old oh we havent been able to proccess your application at this time due to technical errors or your card hasnt been validated so please phone this number so we can best help you.

So affiliates lose commissions usually.

So how the hell is satellite going to make a shit load of money if affiliates are saying that Sky's tracking is off and getting click thrus but no sales?

Wedding Presents is lower commission but normally if the tracking is working on the networks and merchants then your going to get more sales rather than huge whacking ones.

People get married every day so there is always someone looking for wedding presents.

Once someone has a sky subscription, there not going to buy it again from a website.

Also the fact that if someone has been a sky customer before or shown interest in Sky so their customer details are on record, then technically most merchants dont class them as new customers so they dont pay out.

I've been in the business 4 years this year mate, you seem to be a newbie so please dont tell me my game.

Fine. You win again. I am humbled to be in the presence of a master such as yourself. I've been doing affiliate stuff since 97/98, but whatever. I won't tell you your game.

Christ if you want to talk bollocks I used to do 5 cent clicks with 888 casino god knows how long before that and that was one of the first rip offs around.

I have been a professional affiliate for four years e.g I dont go and do a day job I work for myself.

So do me a favour you post crap on a toyota trademark issue about solar power and windmills and stuff like that and you have been doing it for 9 years.

LoL like fook your an amateur left right and center.

And Robert darling, names Mark or Sir to you

ah, bless.

That the best you can come up with boy? Go and wait in the corner young man until puberty.

You quote what other people think about stuff rather than knowing or having your own points of view about things.

People do things differently no matter what it is, you see a post regarding solar power and wind turbines and suddenly you use that on a toyota domain apprasial?

WTF

Still pissing people off and waffling on about things you know little about? Or maybe its heatstroke from sitting out in the sun to long!!!!!!!!!!

:) This just gets better.

As I said before, you win. You are the best affiliate marketeer I have ever met online. I can't wait until I am as accomplished as you so plainly are. Until then I will just bumble along in my own little world. Thankyou for showing me the error of my ways.

My Internet experience from 1988 onwards pales into insignificance next to you.

I am simply not worthy.

Your internet experience didnt you say affiliating experience before?

If your talking about net experience I was on wildcat bbs before the internet was as popular as it is now, it was around at the time but that was in the days when you used to actually have to pay for phone calls, so you would end up running up a thousand pound bill.

Then you were talking about 14.k modems and your still nothing boy.

Work it out, I've been using computers since I was 10, the first one was a home built kit that my uncle and his mates built and they programmed scramble, my first home computer that I owned was the ZX81 so 26 years later I'm still using them but not having the play time that I used too.

So try again boy
