Would you register .Wales and .Cymru domain names ?

Why on earth would you think that there not apparently being any ICANN accredited registrars (not ICANN members) in Wales would be relevant to buying a domain name? Nominet incorporated NRS to ensure that .wales and .cymru had at least one registrar prepared to sell the two extensions should no other ICANN accredited registrar elect to sell them. Fortunately that hasn't been the case. They also incorporated NRS to allow their own registrars to sell these gTLDs through their existing registrar management systems.

It was from the mouth of a nominet employee, now stop being (a) cheeky MONKEY

Let's keep the thread on track!

A couple that have shown available (but you couldn't register them) now show a back-dated WHOIS;

map.wales

This domain name has not been registered.
>>> Last update of WHOIS database: 2015-03-03T14:25:54Z <<<

and hotel.wales

This domain name has not been registered.

How are these not on the NOM reserved list?

I just took flight.wales (has been blocked as well for a while but came free today) and competitions.wales

Is the Whois giving patchy results? I've found one saying This domain name has not been registered, but when i go to buy, the registrars are saying it's taken!

Nominet emailed this out on the 1st, could be the cause of some of the delayed registrations?

During a busy day of registrations for .cymru and .wales domains, we experienced some difficulties with the technical systems processing applications.

While thousands of registrations have been processed smoothly, a small number of customers using EPP experienced a delay processing registrations for domains with the same string in both .wales and .cymru.

The system is operational, and we continue to monitor the situation.

A short period of downtime affected our outsourced NRS systems, but was quickly resolved.

.uk systems and registrations were unaffected.

should have been none.wales :D

One i realy did fancy but was to slow to think.

prince.wales :D

The results from the whois are rather patchy. Here's two that are "not registered" according to the whois, no mention of a premium name, or reserved for policy reasons:

south.wales

south.wales now showing as registered on Mar 3rd.

How are the "premium domains" being registered? On the main Nominet site it states

The application process for a premium Name is the same as for any other domain name during Landrush. Premium Names are domain names which we believe will be more attractive in the market place. These names will be marked up by Registrars so it will be worth shopping around to get the best deal on the one you are interested in. It’s also worth noting, however, that Premium Names are all likely to go to auction
(my bold).

Go to auction where exactly, and where could you buy these from Registrars?
