Who's Using Fresh Store Builder?

I bet if you search Google you'll find quite a few FSB sites with the exact phrase "Secure Online Shop". Including one or two of mine I might add, lol, although they seem to be OK. :)

Just a thought...!

PS: I've found at least 20 so far with default titles...
Looks like one of yours is bottom of page one for this term  think another shopping template rules this term though

LOL, some of my earlier installations haven't all been updated/changed yet. ;)

Still, I don't think this is a deciding factor by any means, but could may well add to the Google cauldron...

Wow, lots. Point demonstrated there nicely by Shane, Google will surely see this as duplicated content....?

Write it from scratch or just rewrite a freely available PP, set of T&C?

Yup, and theres plenty of other piece like that - t&c, privacy, even the text on the newsletter page and special offers page..."Our prices are already low, but sometimes we go crazy and put some even lower! See below for our current special offers and check back regularly for the latest." - gives 3160 results.

The main site of mine that dropped had all unique content though, I changed every single page from within the admin section.

My site is ranking again, 2nd for that term ;)

Did you change all the product and category descriptions too?

Did you change all the product and category descriptions too?

Yup. Around 40 products, tidied up the title and url for each one, wrote a unique description and meta info for them, removed all the amazon content, changed the text on all the pages.

Just checked one of the auto generated descriptions that FSB creates...

search for "With so many on offer right now, it is good to have a make you can recognise." which is one of the spun descriptions, 119,000 results.

Hi Guys, there seems to be a bit of a mild panic here so I will give you my official word :)

I posted this in the thread earlier:

Google would never punish or prefer a particular system - it is all about what you do with it.

Consider Wordpress - there are many many sites that are spammy and have been penalised, but there are also some of the most popular blogs in the world using the system.

As long as you use FSB to create good quality sites and add great content you will avoid the wrath of Google. The same goes for Storeburst, providing it doesn't have any dodgy/blackhat kind of features that would attract a penalty.

We have had people suggest that Google is filtering FSB right from when we first launched two years ago, but I stand 100% by what I say above. FSB is a tool to create websites like Wordpress and Storeburst. What you create with that tool is what matters.

The difference between FSB and other solutions is that we encourage you to create quality websites and have built the software around this, allowing you to add unique content to every page and allowing you to fully control what products (and importantly how many) are on your site.

There are some members in our private forum who have had their stores penalised. On inspection there was either a content issue, speed issue, old sitemap.xml or something else. In all cases in which the customer correct the issue they have got their site back ranking.

There are also many members (and my own private stores) that are ranking top for targeted terms and netting their owners a great income. This is why I can say 100% that Google has not filtered FSB just because it is FSB - all those stores would have stopped ranking.

From what I can gather many people are saying that Storeburst was "filtered" by Google yet somebody just posted to say they have stores ranking. This is what I would expect - providing you build a good quality site you will rank well. Maybe Storeburst does not encourage building quality sites or they might not care (I don't know as I don't use it) but I believe 100% that the software itself isn't filtered.

If you have had ranking changes first try to find out what it is. A good rule of thumb says that if you are still in the top 50 for your search terms and your positions are changing regularly, then it suggests the Google Dance - your positions are changing and have not settled.

If your site has disappeared entirely then either you have a problem listed below or Google is taking a long hard look at your site (possibly due to one of the problems below).

The following factors matter in ranking your site:

- The history of your domain (has it been used as a "Thin Affiliate" site before?)
- The amount of content on your site (i.e. percentage of unique content pages)
- The quality of content
- The speed of your site (very important, test it with an external website speed checker)
- The niche of your site
- How long your site has been "new" (i.e. one of the users posting here about lost raknings only gave 1 to 3 weeks of FSB on the domain before taking it down. Big changes can make Google reevaluate your site and if that happens you will need longer than 1 to 3 weeks to see the results)

Also check your website in Google Webmaster tools - they will drop you a message if your site has been penalised for being too "thin" or if the content is not good enough. A couple of users had this, fixed their content and got their sites back ranking in a couple of weeks.

I hope that helps clear this up and should you want your specific website checked by me and my team, just post in the private forum or open a support ticket

Does anybody have a custom theme they have made for FSB? I may try another site and just remove every foodprint I can find to see if it ranks. With that said, the robots file is set to block the /basket/ directory, but its been indexed for at least one of my sites (havent checked the others).

I've spoken with Carey, not had much input back - basically said that it cant be FSB as Google wouldnt punish a platform (I think my deindexed StoreBurst sites would disagree!).

My site which I've switched back to wordpress had EXACTLY the same content for each product on the homepage etc, the only difference is the platform (FSB vs Wordpress). I even adjusted all the t&C/privacy/etc pages so that they all had unique content. After switching it back to wordpress its back to its old rankings.

Hi Shane - we had quite a lengthy conversation about this in a support ticket and I have been waiting to hear back after I asked a few questions and pointed some things out. If you missed the reply let me know on PM and I will give you the ticket number.

Mainly the examples you said weren't ranking anymore are ranking for me still, so maybe a localisation or customisation (i.e. results customised to you/me specifically) issue or just the Google dance in action.

Also it seemed like you had only left FSB on your site for 1 to 3 weeks, which would not be enough if Google decided to totally reevaluate your site.

I was also asking if you had seen any messages in Webmaster tools, had any slowness using FSB and maybe some other points I can't remember off the top of my head.

Hi Carey,

Received your message and thought I had replied to those questions, not that I was convinced any of those had anything to do with the rankings (based on my sites, ie all content was unique, host hasnt changed and is quick, etc etc).

The site I was talking about in the thread wasnt one of mine, but one from another user on here, which was the sterilisers domain (I had removed it from all of my sites). You said it was ranking number one when searching for "sterilisers", I've tried on 3 different network connections, all on google.co.uk with different browsers and can not get it to appear 1st at all.

Any idea why im getting about 15 pages with WMT sitemap error "redirect loop error"

fyi for everyone i have just heard back from google

I submited my site and asked them to reconside my website and they said there is nothing wrong with the site got this back from them

Dear site owner or webmaster of

We received a request from a site owner to reconsider*** for compliance with Google's Webmaster Guidelines.

We reviewed your site and found no manual actions by the webspam team that might affect your site's ranking in Google. There's no need to file a reconsideration request for your site, because any ranking issues you may be experiencing are not related to a manual action taken by the webspam team.

Of course, there may be other issues with your site that affect your site's ranking. Google's computers determine the order of our search results using a series of formulas known as algorithms. We make hundreds of changes to our search algorithms each year, and we employ more than 200 different signals when ranking pages. As our algorithms change and as the web (including your site) changes, some fluctuation in ranking can happen as we make updates to present the best results to our users.

If you've experienced a change in ranking which you suspect may be more than a simple algorithm change, there are other things you may want to investigate as possible causes, such as a major change to your site's content, content management system, or server architecture. For example, a site may not rank well if your server stops serving pages to Googlebot, or if you've changed the URLs for a large portion of your site's pages. This article has a list of other potential reasons your site may not be doing well in search.

If you're still unable to resolve your issue, please see our Webmaster Help Forum for support.

Sincerely,

Google Search Quality Team

May not be related, but a friend had a site he was having issues with where he had setup 301 redirect from non www to www, however he had a canonical tag which was saying to use the non www, hence creating a loop. Dont think he had any messages though, but may be worth looking at as the theme im using with FSB does automatically add a canonical tag pointing to the non www version.

I'm quite suprised by some peoples comments as my own sites are doing fine.
Some better than others.
I was quite sceptical about FSB to start, but after using it, its clearly good value for money.

The people who seem to be having the most problems are those that keep comparing it to Storeburst. (wasn't that a parking option?)
I really don't see any comparison with the 2 TBH, but if its treated the same, then I'd expect to get the same out of it.

I think its great of Carey to come on here and offer SEO advice.
Your all getting that for free (maybe expecting too much) and only payed for his software. Bargain!

Expectations seem to be high with alot of people on here.
You won't get rewarded unless you work for it & that takes a bit longer than a couple of weeks.

There are alot of improvements you can make to your FSB sites to get them to perform better. (I intend to do more)
Some really good ones have already been suggested and pointed out by other forum members. (read over the threads)
Someone mentioned site structure & I think thats a fair point.

My own sites are rising daily. (slowly) since I started, I'm happy with the way things are going, up till now.

Mike
