Who's Using Fresh Store Builder?

Hey WW,

Did you manage to clarify this in the end out of interest? :)

didn't get a reply to it :-(

something strange is going on with my tracking, will be swapping servers for my fsb sites this week.

any UK hosting recommendations?

Cheers,

WW.

Check your sites

I thought I'd give fsb a go and have 3 sites set up so far.

Having had my 1st recoreded 'checkout' I logged onto amazon to see if it completed. However, there wasn't even a click recorded for that site.

I have checked all the settings, which are correct as far as I can see, and the site is listed on my admin 'Your Sites' section, but my affiliate tag is not being used on 1 of the sites. (The other 2 sites are fine), and continues to use the tag fa21-21 whatever I try?

I have already lost 1 potential sale to this tag.

I have sent i a support ticket, but thought I'd share this to see if it's a 1-off issue or not.

Under 'Store Settings' on:

"The checkout mode for your store. Enter either "framed" to keep the visitors on your site (USA only) or "redirect" to redirect them to Amazon."

- Are you using redirect? Not sure if that makes a significant difference (maybe Cairey can confirm?); I assume that's what we UK folks should use (that's what I'm using anyway). :)

I think the issue is due to the fact I set up the store and added some products before I added in to the licenceing admin.

It therefore put in their affiliate tag instead of mine on all the products I created, and remained this way even though I had added it very soon after.

I have managed to correct it on individual products by refresing them, but am awaiting a reply to whether there is a way to refresh them all in bulk!

Interesting, I need to double-check all my products then; there must be a way to bulk change this via a MySQL query I'd imagine? Would you let us know how you get on please? :)

You could try deleting/clearing the cache from within the admin?

Just checking via PHPMyAdmin and getting results in the table "matches inside table tracker_actionproducts" for fa21-21 - should these by my affiliate ID?

Wonder if a replace with my ID is in order?

Not pleased if I'm losing sales to FSB via Amazon and I'd expect them to be refunded.

EDIT:

In one site, a search has found this:

2557 matches inside table products

This site was added to the FSB 'Sites' area before populating! Not happy if I'm losing sales.

Yes they should be your id.

However, this is a log table so no point in changing these. The important one to make sure is correct is the products table.

They need changing asap :-(

Thanks Fred - just found "2557 matches inside table products" for one, despite the fact this was added to my FSB account area before I populated. Not good!

What's the best way to change (e.g. SQL command) in the table area would you say? Thanks. :)

I just ran:
Code:
UPDATE products
SET url = replace(url, 'fa21-21', 'mytag-21')

Obviously, you need to put your tag in there!

seems to have done the trick

Thanks Fred, I was just trying
Code:
update products set url = replace(url, ‘fa21-21’, ‘classical-cd-21’);
- but SQL commands aren't my forte! :D

I was told clearing the cache i few times should fix this issue but im now going to check all mind to make sure im not losing any

Update:

I had no results through all tables so i think im ok, just clear the cache a few times

The reply from support says that the products should update with the correct tag within a few hours from the site being added on the store list.

I know for a fact that it didn't

I believe this is sorted, but to clarify the license system works as follows:

1) You must add your store to your account area
2) The stores call back to the main server periodically (roughly every 2 to 5 days) to check the license
3) You can force your store to call back to the main server by clearing the cache
4) The main server also has a local cache of 3 hours, to prevent DDOS attacks, so you may need to clear your cache, wait a few hours and then clear again
5) The "products" table may store cached copies of the product links for a long time. This is due to the way the products are updated - they are updated slowly in the background, or they are force updated when somebody visits the product page. This is to save on API requests as Amazon have an API limit. Product prices are updated every 15 minutes and the main details (including the URL) every 24 hours. The URL from this table is only used if you have "Direct Links to Amazon" enabled on your product info page (it is off by default).
6) The table tracker_actionproducts is historical so anything in here doesn't affect your live store
7) If you build your store before adding the URL to your account, you will have to clear cache as above to get your affiliate id in place.
8 ) The "acid test" is to check the affiliate id in the URL when you go through checkout (the first page you land on Amazon)

We stress in many places that you must add your sites to your account. As you can imagine piracy is a big problem and this is how we prevent it.

Some comments could be vaguely suggesting that this is something sinister; I will firmly say that this is not the case. There are thousands of stores using FSB and if there was a problem here you can be sure you would know about it. Regardless, I believe in doing things ethically and honestly - I hope my actions and attitude show that.

We have refunded users who have mistakenly entered the wrong URL or forgot to do so, despite the time it takes to do this and even though we don't have to.

If you are in any doubt at all about your stores or the licensing please contact support and we will check your account over thoroughly.

Im really considering this but whats to stop it going the same way as Storeburst has with Google hating it? bearing in mind Google loved SB for a couple of years.
I really need convincing to shift my SB names over.
