Upcoming Dan changes

@Lovekraft, I was never a big seller on Sedo, I've sold a lot more on here, DL and privately including to members from here over the years.

I originally had a Sedo account around 2009, but abandoned that account, and opened a new one in 2013, I never did like it with all the ads back then, but the new landers with no ads is at least a step in the right direction.

Had a quick look at my Sedo sales, and these are the stats:

Sedo from 2013 - 2019 (2 sales were in 2021, even though they were parked for sale at Dan)
Sales: 28
Rev: £30,313
Avg: £1,082

I joined Dan in 2017 but only put 3 domains on there at the time, and forgot about it, then added 6 more domains in 2018, and transferred all from Sedo to Dan nameservers in 2019:

Avg: £1,191

Thanks for the rundown, much appreciated. I think the sedo landing pages look a little more appealing than they used to and I never thought i'd see the day i'd be considering them again as the original dan.com model was explemplary (and frustratingly would still be if it wasn't for this unwelcome dollar fiasco )

It does look like bodis is more geared towards parking, I think many of my sales benefited from customers seeing they would effectively get a brokering / escrow service as part of the purchase which helped drive sales.

Agreed, I think or thought the same and it also filters out the spam offers. However if anyone is listing with BIN's and the sales process takes clients to Escrow.com to take the payment, that could offer a similar level of trust?

Here's hoping! Will just have to see how it pans out.

Did you message dan.com with your thoughts? The more people that do the more they might just revert back, especially if they realise we're all going to upshop.

Think you did the right thing Catchdrop - we have to remember that Godaddy tried this update a month or two ago, received a lot of flak, reversed the decision, and waited til now to do it again. You can't rely on that sort of behaviour. We've got over 2000 domains on dan so will probably take them across in stages to sedo. I think we'll dispense with 'make offer' and reduce prices on all our non-premium domains. Last couple of months on dan we received a lot of lowball offers so would be good to cut those out.

I didn't realise they'd previously tried to roll this out? was it on dan.com or another platorm?

It wasn't exactly like this update - but when they changed the commission rate, and forced everyone for a few days to sell on afternic, they changed a lot of the buy now prices to dollars. It was very high handed approach - just like this. Here is the thread

so I've been adding a number of domains to sedo. There is a section for adding some info about yourself and/or the domain. So I gave some company information (i.e. date of incorporation and the fact that we are nominet members) and requested that this info be listed on all our domains. But it doesn't seem to be appearing i.e. see ....... dot uk - that one is on sales lander v3 seller. Does anyone know how to get company info to appear? Do I need to use a different lander. Can anyone see our company info appearing on .......... dot uk ? Thanks.

I'm sure the UK only makes up a small part of their overall business but I can't understand why they'd just throw it away like this. It's easy money for them They literally gave us 2 days notice and rolled it out on a Friday so that the staff could bugger off and ignore the complaints. I've a feeling Godaddy will be looking to get rid of the dan.com european offices and just centralise it all in America and I think the staff know this too.

Godaddy support sucks, so I hope this doesn't end up being the case!

It's not just the UK either: euros are no longer accepted so it affects European cctld markets too.

slowly moving my domains to Sedo now. Is there a way of bulk updating the landing pages to v3 / 4 so I don't have to do them all individually?

and did you guys establish which nameservers are best to use?

I'm currently going with:

ns1.sedoparking.com
ns2.sedoparking.com

Pain in the $$$ having to reprice everything as on dan.com they are all in dollars now of course.

He said offer information (the bespoke info you can write about yourself/the domain) only appears on domains with 'make offer'. So I'm just leaving them 'buy now' and not worrying about that appearing. Told him about dan's changes and to expect uplift in uk domains coming back to sedo.

In the "My Domains" section, find the drop down at the top "Change your view:" and select "Parking Optimization".

You can then click the pencil icon on the Layout column to select them all, or some at a time.

Thankyou, that's a great help! The interface is definetely a bit clunkier than dans but what can you do.

I'm going to give it another month or so on Dan before moving back to Sedo, just out of interest too see what, if any, offers come in.

Escrow.com offer a payment by instalment service and payment in GBP

Fees seem prohibitive for low value names, but for larger sales it could be worth considering.

I believe you can use PayPal, on Sedo and this is v reasonable cost wise for buyer & seller.
