Upcoming Dan changes

I just sent feedback too - don't expect any joy though

what's most annoying is they are only doing this to benefit themsleves, seeing as they are US owned now they want all icoming cashflow to be in $ to save on conversion fees (and instead force it it upon their customers) but they are just shooting themselves in the foot as in a few months time when they see their overseas sales have drastically dropped most of us will have had to move to other platforms by that point.

Now all my BIN prices are a total mess of uneven figures and for each domain I now have to manaully convert the figures to work out what the actual value is and it will be the same for buyers who will be put off having to deal in a foreign currency. It doesn't even show the conversion when you try to buy the domain.

It's one of the stupidest decisions i've ever seen. I knew when I saw the Godaddy takeover that they were going to bit by bit destroy what was a great platform although I didn't forsee they'd ruin it quite as quickly as this. It would be no different if a company like ebay forced all their transactions in the UK to suddenly be in $ it would just kill the platform off overnight, nobody in the UK wants to deal in $, why would they?

It's going to be another long night of changing the bloody $ prices on over 800 domains, which have to be done 1 at a time, ffs.

Flip, but I personally don't like that a prospective buyer can so easily view reams of unsold £30 domain auctions
DomainManage, requires a subscription
I've setup basic parking pages with an offer box on Bodis, see 3-d.uk
Can you setup a bin price with Bodis & what percentage do they take of sale ?

Well looks like the changes have taken place.

Pain in the ass for people selling to UK buyers grrrrr.

Does anyone know of a service like dan where you can import a lead and they take care of payment and transfer?

Cheers
Karl

Hi Karl, I have asked Colin at pitch.uk to see what he can do, in terms of being able to add a lead.

Might consider Bodis too.

One of the main benefits of dan.com is customers were happy to use them becasue of the trust factor, they have thousands of trust pilot reviews which counts for a lot. But now it's time to consider somewhere else as this is the worst update they could impose. You can just tell some yank at Godaddy who thinks the world revolves around America and the dollar has come up with this idea .

Have they removed the options to bulk change pricing?

They still have bulk options, but I do everything on my phone these days, and their site isn't really optimised for mobile, you can't even use it with your phone turned sideways when viewing your domain list, the page just goes white.

I found another way around it, that hadn't occured to me before. On my Vivaldi Android browser, there's an option to view as "desktop site", doing that allowed me to change prices in bulk, although a bit fiddly due to screen size and having to zoom in and out, got all the prices done anyway, but they look horrible in $'s :(

I had a look at Sedo sales landers on Friday night as I may switch back to Sedo, I changed nameservers on 4women.co.uk to test which lander to use, I went with V3 lander and clicked to save it, next to that it says it can take up to 15 minutes for changes to occur, waited a while, refreshed the page and nothing changed, tried some other landers, saved those, still no change, 24 hours later it's still showing the default lander that was already on there.

Not sure if it's to do with the nameservers, because I found out that to use landers you need to use the following, which I set them to:

sl1.sedo.com
sl2.sedo.com

Last night I changed them to:

ns1.sedoparking.com
ns2.sedoparking.com

Doesn't appear to make any difference, still showing the default lander. Anyone else having problems with Sedo landers?

I'm seeing v3 for that name.

Is it correct that Sedo charge 10% on BIN, but 15% if Make Offer is used? Came across this yesterday, but hadn't seen it before.

@diablo, have you got a screenshot of what my domain is showing as, please?

It shows like this for me:

Yes, the fees are the same as they always were, fee list here, which are:

Buy Now plus parked domains through Sedo marketplace 10%:

List your domain with a Buy Now price or a Buy Now or Best Offer option, and also park your domain through Sedo and activate the ads page or the sales landing page. If your domain is then sold directly through the Sedo marketplace, we only charge 10% of the gross sale price as a sales fee.

Other domain sales through the Sedo Marketplace 15%:

If your domain is sold directly through the Sedo Marketplace from a Make Offer listing or auction, 15% commission will apply. Using Sedo Parking or the sales landing page is not required. Auctions can be started for free when you receive an offer using the latest bid as the reserve price (Push to Auction) or at any time for a $59 initial setup fee (Direct Auction). 15% also applies if your domain sales from a Buy Now or Buy Now Best Offer listing that is not parked or using the sales landing page.

Domain sales through the SedoMLS network 20%:

All domains you list for sale or auction on the Sedo marketplace are also automatically promoted through our SedoMLS network, giving you additional access to a broad, international audience. If your domain is sold or auctioned to a buyer from the SedoMLS network, we charge a fee of 20% of the gross sale price.

There's also an express transfer fee charged to the buyer, which is 3% of the sales price, not sure if that's a new thing.

Never knew they charged more for Make Offer (lower sales price so you lose twice!).

Ah, I get it now. "Buy Now price or a Buy Now or Best Offer option" is 10%. I thought they were now charging 15% if Best Offer was used. Confusing it with Make Offer.

I'm seeing this:

@duablo, thanks, not sure why it's showing a different lander for you, the image above was from my phone, and I checked on my laptop 24 hours later and it was showing the same on there.

I don't see any point in listing only as make offer now, as that's 15% if you agree on a sale, when you can add a BIN price and still accept best offers for only 10%.

What I used to do years ago on Sedo was, if I had names listed as make offer, and if after a few back and forth counter offers I liked their current offer, I'd tell the buyer I'm now going to cancel negotiations and set it as a BIN price of their last offer, so that I'd only pay 10%, which they then clicked to buy at that BIN.

did you get as many sales on sedo? Not been on it for years but always thought the for sale pages looked dated and the service was really slow vs dan.com

@Lovekraft, I was never a big seller on Sedo, I've sold a lot more on here, DL and privately including to members from here over the years.

I originally had a Sedo account around 2009, but abandoned that account, and opened a new one in 2013, I never did like it with all the ads back then, but the new landers with no ads is at least a step in the right direction.

Had a quick look at my Sedo sales, and these are the stats:

Sedo from 2013 - 2019 (2 sales were in 2021, even though they were parked for sale at Dan)
Sales: 28
Rev: £30,313
Avg: £1,082

I joined Dan in 2017 but only put 3 domains on there at the time, and forgot about it, then added 6 more domains in 2018, and transferred all from Sedo to Dan nameservers in 2019:

Dan since 2019
Sales: 38
Rev: £45,266
Avg: £1,191

I've been trying
sl1.sedo.com
sl2.sedo.com

nameservers on a few premium domains on sedo for a number of weeks and found that visitor's traffic wasn't being recorded. I switched them all to:

ns1.sedoparking.com
ns2.sedoparking.com

on Saturday night and traffic looks fine today so think I'll being using that nameserver. I've been using the v4 seller lander which is ok. Our account has been with sedo since 2003 so I think that is worth showing however it is a bit too prominent compared to the 'buy now' price, so I might switch back to the blank version. To be honest we only left sedo because they jacked up fees, and dans interface was better. But I can't see us selling less domains on sedo once we get them switched back.
