For the rest... who really cares?
That's a ridiculous comment.
YOU might not care but Grant Unwin might, Paul McDonagh might, Sharad Madan might. Yes, some of those examples are poor but there are a number of good examples listed where directors haven't gone after the .org.uk equivalent because they're trading commecial enitities that bought into the 'primary namespace (business extension)' that Nominet started off this whole direct.uk programme with.
From Nominet forum today;
So no further forward.
However, whatever the outcome of these discussions, there will be further work required to think though next steps
That to me, says it's still on the table. No work required if they were just going to announce "No"
.
I wonder if Nom can go ahead with saying there will be a new .UK, but delay revealing the mechanism of allocation. This would have obvious benefits to them.. :|
They might, but whenever it ultimately gets announced there is going to have to be an "advance period" - they're not going to be able to spring it on people full-formed as in "from today, you can register domains under .uk following such and such criteria". So regardless of when the announcement comes down, there will be a gap between detail and live implementation.
Nothing on the Nominet forum, on the Twitter accounts of any of the directors at the Board meeting, or indexed by Google on the subject in the last week. No third party tweets referencing "Nominet" with any further information, either.
It seems to be tighter than the bank of England meetings
I wonder how many of them have kids and grannies who are now purchasing domains, already knowing they are .uk qualifying.
I know theirs some miss trust of Nominet not sure they would go down this route. My guess is the qualifying quality .org.uk/me.uk holders are well aware off the potential value by now and are waiting to see what happens
I know the few I've contacted have had plenty of offers already

What will happen at the end of this consultation?
The feedback we receive will inform our decision making on the way forward. We will publish all formal stakeholder responses (subject to their consent) once this decision has been made along with a summary. You can choose whether you would like us to publish your response or not. If we move ahead, any changes to our policy would be notified to our stakeholders with at least 30 days notice prior to implementation. In any event, no changes would take place prior to 2014.
