The UK ROR 'WHO GOT WHAT?' thread

Only had ssb.uk on the list for today, had it with a few places but no-one got it for me.

Some decent names on this thread.

It's going to be interesting to see how the .UK marketplace changes now .UK is truly a seperate extension.

I would welcome your advice on this one.

I've recently launched Sportsweek.uk (also have the .co.uk and .com) and went for Newsweek.uk as a natural development of the content that I offer.

GoDaddy have captured the url and I've been invited into an auction for it. So far, so good.

I've just done a bit of due diligence on the name and have found that Newsweek.co.uk is actively forwarding to Newsweek.com. Yes, that one - with its 26 million unique visits in May...grrrr.

Clearly I have no wish to pass off as Newsweek, but I do like the name as a fit within my roadmap. If I was spending a tenner on it, I'd happily close the deal and crack on.

However, if I end up spending a few hundred pounds in a GD auction, and then find myself in the shadow of Trump's wig....I'm going to be pretty pissed off.

Is this likely to happen?

Do these guys forgo their brand rights in this market post the RoR period?

Can I expect to get what I spend at auction back should the wig come-a-calling?

Does the wag who forgot to register the domain at Newsweek keep his/her job?

Might this be my first headline story....

I picked up News//First dot (u/k) thinking it was a nice name, then i had a look where the .co.uk headed

Checked the whois :rolleyes:o_O

As someone who's had his fair share of letters I'd look at the trademarks and specifically look at the classes that are already registered. If your site's content remotely matches those classes they'll clobber you, and I expect an organisation with millions at their disposal won't hesitate. In fact they won't even know about it, they'll have lawyers retained who deal with this sort of stuff.

The fact the word "news" is in there suggests it would be a news site and as such I would likely steer clear. I would have had a look on IPO but it's down at the moment... https://www.gov.uk/search-for-trademark Look later. You'd need to check on WIPO too.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but it's a bitter pill to swallow if you're vested and get clobbered.

Could tell some stories :D

I picked up joop.uk at 14.01, because I didn't check the list carefully enough. Deleted it when I saw it, Godaddy re-registered it. that's a DRS I wouldn't want.

Again, check for TMs... If there's nothing there stick something up. You never know, you might get an offer or you might get a cease and desist :p

Thanks. I can't see it on catchtiger - do you need to have an account to view?

thanks
David
No, it was pre-drop auction.

That was the pre drop auctions, that ended last friday. I don't think there is any info on the site anymore.

Do you have landing pages on the domains? or an obvious way to contact you from your whois information?

If they're good, people should come to you

You can also try your luck on Domainlore.uk

No, but I have a few lnn.com addresses (one not for sale, other listed on sedo few years ago I think) , all I get for those is Chinese scammers emailing about price through whois info.

I would be rather have a trusted place to list these.

So thanks for suggestion, I will try it.

Is it still possible to see the pre-drop bids on there? For instance for .uk domains we may have picked up

I think they were hidden after they finished

@davedevelopment posted a link from catchtiger where you could d/l a list of uk's with prebids, but the list must have been compiled early on into bidding because camping.uk was at £251 for example and I know it finished around £3000

Thanks for the additional info. Sounds like a 'you had to be there' moment then to get a complete picture of the bids.

It'll be interesting to see what the upcoming domainlore .uk auctions reach, though they're closed to those expressing interest in the domains before they dropped I think.

Anyway, best of luck to everyone for tomorrow

I got a couple of confirmations from 123 too :) I had an inkling I'd nabbed them because the TAGs were EVOHOSTING and MONSTER.
You did well, I had a backorder with 123-REG that MONSTER caught; I've not received it. Awaiting a reply from them!
