2.1. On the terms of this contract and subject to the policy, you may use our DAC system and provide data from it to end users.

2.2. Only domain names for which we supply whois responses generally will receive a valid response to a query. A list of the domain names we provide whois responses for is set out in the whois1 terms of use. We may in the future increase the range of domain names for which we will provide a query response.

Grant, they have special T&C for you mate!! Special.

All I need to be told now is that DRT will no longer work and that's the end of domaining for me!
I won't be renewing my nominet membership this year.

I won't be able to afford to until i get my websites running again which I'm doing now if everything goes pop with one months notice, 30 days to turn £2000 a month again from sites, why not, maybe I'll just sell my house and live in the country and retire now before I reach 32.

Just a reminder we are in MARCH !

If this does go ahead it won't be live until 7 April at 12.00 (midday) according to the Nominet website i.e. one month tomorrow.

so does this affect prss users. ie solicitors who download prss lists of domains on peopls tags, are they going to be hit by this or will nominet turn a blind eye.

Previously I believe there has been arguements between people who run sites listing domains and Nominet over if/what is an 'insubstantial' amount of data.

Nominet have now defined that, and people are not happy.

Question is - what level *is* in peoples opinions sensible / useable ?

As for not renewing memberships, I would urge people to rethink and become more active in Nominet and not just from a 'domainer' perspective. I will await all your discussions on nom-steer ;)

I believe the exact term is "not insubstantial". I wonder why this phrase is used - does anyone know why, legally, you would use a double negative like that rather than just saying "substantial"? Is there any legal significance?

This goes beyond scanning for suspended domains, it "should" mean and end to droplists?

Why was deleting shut down yet serveral others have filled that gap in the same way and are now publically offering drop lists?

What on earth is the issue here?
I've done the sums, looked at my code and can't see a problem.

For you Colin, and I'm making some assumptions as to how you operate, the problem is that Nominet are now telling you that you can't maintain your own list/database of domain names that is larger than 1,000 names. As someone who takes part in the daily drops, how are you going to predict what's dropping and when if you are restricted to 1,000 domains in your own lists/databases?

That's one issue that many of us will have in common. Some other issues are unique to certain people and the way that they operate/catch/whatever.

Maybe everyone can build there lists from filling out freedom of information requests on a daily basis :D:D

foi requests only work with goverment departments and nominet is not a goverment dept:p

I was only joking mate, we had this argument on Nom-Steer a few weeks ago. Lot of interesting stuff to come out of Nom-Towers when it does happen.

That is for formal complaints - I would suggest a first step of raising concerns on nom-steer and the like.

Likewise, to be more proactive and useful point out what a reasonable solution would be rather than just saying 'its wrong' :)
