Geez, I hope the guy who let it drop hasn't heard about this sale!

£150k everyday!!

Interesting that you feel that this particular type of name is £150k everyday of week when it is a sale that represents 10% of all gross .co.uk sales this year.....clearly once a year not every day

I think it would be great if two things are done:-

Firstly we verified the sale...Paullas and Doug should send my company a original bank statement showing the transaction leaving and gaining. We verify deposits all day long so seems prudent that we do this to verify the sale. Paullas has my address.

Then clarify what exactly is going on the bins is it recycle.co.uk or just recycle

Except that the 1.5 million quid figure is only the sales that Sedo KNOWS about, which are a tiny fraction of all sales. (My experience talking to a few major .co.uk "players" confirms this - and no, I'm not going to provide specifics save to say that a LOT of people don't report sales...)

Indeed

Indeed, why report a sale unless you are contracted to do so....unless some knock on effect is expected then I don't see a benefit in reporting a sale or a purchase. Given this sale is the largest reported sale it should be verified

Lee

sorry not showing bank accounts

What planet do you think I am on:)

Doug

If anyone has any doubt to the sale have a trip to St Helens and find the biggest non-drug money car there... its a domainer :)

aye i like my BMW X5 :)

and i cant believe people want proof :). people on here who talk to me on phone and msn and the same with doug know the sale is as what it is. We dont need to prove anything to anyone. Sorry but i certanly wont be sharing my bank statements as i have a few other big sales ive had that is published..

Keep an eye on the sites in my signature :) they will be developed also...

Sale was 100% genuine and neither the buyer nor seller should feel pressured to prove it. It was a big deal, but really not that big considering some of the others we know about, but ...won't talk about.

Well, it's interesting. Lack of high value reported sales has negatively affected the perceived value of the .co.uk cctld. As UK domainers we want our cake and we want to eat it too :) ... so it's our own fault I suppose. We are naturally reluctant to disclose deals which paint us as fair game for aggressive bartering down the road. If Doug now expresses an interest in some other generics he's probably not going to get a bargain price because the seller will think "ah, the guy who paid £150k for recycle.co.uk!"

High reported sales help the perceived value of the extension but create a higher barrier to entry for many traders. It's the best kept secret in the domain industry perhaps, what .co.uk domains really sell for. My best guess is that this is down to the different entrepreneurial attitudes of UK domain traders versus those in the US and elsewhere.

As more big .co.uk sales are reported in the public domain people elsewhere in the industry will begin to wonder where the heck the .co.uk aftermarket sprang from. It will appear to have come almost out of nowhere. That time seems to be getting closer... but be warned, once it happens you can kiss goodbye to the killer domain(s) you've been saving up for.

Percieved is the key word there.

What is amusing is to see people with formular and theories on .UK pricing come to the market and make offers based on that. The fact that offers fail to buy ought to give an indication where the market is at :)

Totally agree.

So everyone...shush! ;)

Sorry Landlord but who are you? domain police???? Why should anyone send you anything?
I don't personally know dougs or Paullas but I know enough to trust them having been a member on here for quite a while. You on the other hand have circa 20 posts? I fail to see why anyone has to justify the price?

As for the recycle on bins it's obvious (to me anyway) that he meant the council are putting recycle on bins not recycle.co.uk

Shh indeed.

The money being thrown into online marketing, moving from traditional/offline to online has seen a huge shift over the last couple of years - after this xmas's online sales figures are released we will see another huge jump in trading online and that will again speed up the boom in online advertising which will have a fairly big impact on UK domains over the next year or two as web based businesses move towards having multiple storefronts/websites stepping it up a few gears to try and dominate their markets.

Verification

I was merely trying to be helpful...no need to get on the defensive

Doug, out of interest, is it to be recycle.co.uk
on every bin or recycle?

Lee

not for you

that reply wasnt directed at you but I don't see why verifying a sale is considered arrogant... indeed seems a very reasonable thing to do given the sale is so vocal and the biggest co.uk recorded.

My understanding is that Doug operates under a limited company(s) so I don't see why such information needs to be kept non verified i.e. I am sure relatibve turnover can be derived from looking at the accounts filed at companies house....i have never checked but I am sure someone can do this sort of thing

Lee

Important

It would be great to verify the sale, don't you think? I personally see many claims and from an outsiders point of view a distinct difference exists from a acorn sale to a sedo sale i.e. no third party confirmation.

Its no big deal either way....no big deal if you verify, no big deal if you don't...some people will rely on it others won't....the question is...for such an easy task why don't you verify it?

Verifying a sale isn't, it's the way you posted it that is.

"Paullas and Doug should send my company a original bank statement showing the transaction leaving and gaining."

Why do they need to justify anything with you? that is the part that confuses me? Are you in negotiations to purchase it? We're you entitled to a cut? are you their accountant?????

He says you know his address Paullas. Do you know who this guy is? It's a little scary that he's like a 'Minime' of Grandin, what with the name of Lee, and the username of Landlord.

Anyone read 'The Anatomy of Buzz' by Emanuel Rosen?

The recycle sale would make for a great case study. I mean, you're all talking about it ...aren't you. Very good Dougs. I like it.
