Recycle.co.uk Sold for GBP150,000 to Become the Highest Value for ... - PR Newswire U

Uk sales

More interestingly...Sedo's total sales of .co.uk amounted to £1.5 million ....recycle.co.uk....10% of all sales and fly.co.uk 8%.

Paullas clearly extracted an end user price and did a good job in doing so.

Would be good to have the sale verified by Sedo

Which brings us back round to the reason this thread has had so much interest, SEDO HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SALE! ;)

Correct...........

Conversely, if you believe Sedo had something todo with it, do you not think it odd that Paul 'extracted an end user price' rather than Sedo earning their 10%.

As someone pointed out elsewhere, perhaps Paul should invoice £15k to Sedo :)

Why? Sedo are not some kind of oracle of domains, let alone .UK ! Bear in mind Sedo have published 'sold' figures on domains that never sold :)

Either way, Recycle.co.uk was nothing todo with Sedo , and they were happy to bathe in reflected 'glory' which is poor form.

I'd presume it would be the word "recycle" rather than www.recycle.co.uk??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I believe he bought it for a fiver in a catch.

We paid just over £150,000 inc VAT, which was for the domain, site and some consultancy.

Well done to Paul as the work he has put into it in my view made it easily worth that amount and I was very happy withe purchase.

Green.co.uk is just a name, a good one but not as good as www.recycle.co.uk which the uk gov is now kindly sticking on every bin and piece of paper in the country

Doug

Clarity and confusion are the odd couple indeed.

The term 'Pass the buck' springs to mind, typical big business, Sod the little man Take the glory.

google rankings

We purcahsed the name, but we put some decent value on Pauls work and the google rankings.

I dont know what else to say.

Paul bought something cheap, added value, we bought it. Sedo announced the sale and got the PR a bit messed up.

Thanks Doug for comments. I hope i can do more sites and sell for good amount. but it goes to show, spend time and develop and it does payoff...

well done Paul

As people know here what Paul has done is what we do as a business. Hopefully we can take Pauls work the the next level.

In the meantime, its Xmas and make me and yourself some pennies please:)

It was a very dirty tatic what sedo did and i would not be happy..

sedo it could not have been intentional

Having dealt with the press that had PR disater written on it before it went out

Incompetence on some ones part

Doug

lets hope i can make Locals into a good website within the next year or 2 :)

It inspires us all, and is what we all hope for.

How much was for the domain and how much was for the site though?
If paullas site was ranked same as now but had for instance the domain name recycler.co.uk how much would that have sold for???? Dougs?
Obviously we don't know what the site was making income wise, which I can't have seen as being much.

respect

I do respect that the name is a good name and one can read alot into developed websites but the underlying problem remains....

OVT 5410 recycle

You will not (currently) get enough money to recoup your expense unless you have done a deal with the Government to slap recycle.co.uk all over every bin.....is that right doug have you done that?

Re....sedo

I think one can rely on their sales prices as a good reflection of tradeed domain names.....a independent party has verifiied the sale as the money traded through a client account

Lee

I think that if it had the website or not, it was still a £150k name all day everyday, so I dont think I would have bothered to put the time and effort into building it myself.

maybe I am in my own world

But when you build a site you want other people to reference you and link to you, both help with search ranking and they bring traffic.

Now if I tried to get people to listen to me and I had the name dodgydougsrecyclingsite.co.uk I would never get a link or a meeting.....

We have always gone after good names it helps open doors. the day after the purchase I had a call from one of the largest carbon trusts in the UK asking if we could work together. Those calls are priceless.

Hence our portfolio and sites include:

www.carrentals.co.uk
www.promos.co.uk
www.asap.co.uk
www.hirecars.co.uk
www.hirecars.com
www.fly.co.uk
www.recycle.co.uk
www.electric.co.uk
www.emigrate.co.uk
www.selfcatering.co.uk
www.overseas.com.au

I am just trying to explain that in pitching to take a business to a new level a good domain prooves credability and opens ,more doors than you can ever imagine. Whent he door is open what you after that is upto you.

Some of you guys are sitting on the gold but you need to do things with them. Very few people I know will pay a fortune just for a domain, but give it some vision, links like Paul did and then the price can go up massively.

Fiver reg fee if I remember correctly :)

from memory it was in a prenom drop... much gnashing of teeth on the day from all concerned. But they were all groping for about 50+(avg for a prenom drop) generics dropping on the same day.

Those were the days!
