COLOGNE, Germany, November 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Sedo, the leading market place for Internet domain names and websites, has announced that recycle.co.uk has sold for GBP150,000. It is the highest figure paid for a co.uk internet domain name and breaks the last recorded value by GBP40,000 which was set by J Sainsbury plc when it purchased taste.co.uk for GBP110,000 in 1997.

The Internet domain name, recycle.co.uk, was bought by ASAP Ventures, a venture capital company. ASAP Ventures will use the Internet domain name to fund a business which will provide UK customers with information on recycling services.

Pathetic. Everyone knows Sedo had nothing to do with this sale.

Someone must have put out a press release... I wonder who.

Perhaps I ought to trawl Sedo's sales list and put some PR's out claiming them as mine.

Well as i was the owner i can guarantee that the sale was not handled in anyway by sedo. The sale was done privatly between me and Doug weeks before the domain focus event.

i also see they didnt mention my company http://www.theFirst.co.uk as the seller so that proves they didnt know my company name...
And thats Official :)

They have cleverly worded it so they do not specifically say 'we sold it' , rather trying to be associated by the deal.

Are times that hard there?!

hot king hopping cooks

typical... and this is how the uk sedo team promote their amazing new launch into the uk marketplace... doh!

it was an amazing price for what is and can only be classed as a "PRIVATE SALE" even more so the fact that it was initiated via Acorn Domains with no mention is mad PR work...

so it seems that someone with a bit of clout here in ny, has mentioned this to a few peeps... dnforum being one so that a REAL press release is worded correctly... maybe dougs and paullas can record a skype telecast for this and pdf it for general release maybe... also a press release here on acorn would help too!

Guess you cant blame 'em for trying!

I wonder paul, did you escrow or just handle the money yourself?

...even more that it was not a "domain" sale and Sedo is always happy to mix up facts. I wonder why I'm still bringing them any kind of profits.

Nice to see you did it the old fashioned way on a handshake. Better than these shysters who want a contact for a £500 quid sale.

I dealt with the Rothschilds once, and they, for a domain sale, were happy to pay up front, hell I actually said lets do it, half now and half after just to reassure them.

amazing domain name!! gd sale!

what did you sell to the Rothschilds?

Well, if that is the precise wording of Sedo's release then it is entirely accurate...is it not? It doesn't claim to have had anything to do with the recycle sale. Knowledge of the sale was already in the public domain...on this public forum. Where is the problem?

Venture capital firm

Is that right....venture capital firm and not a wholly owned business

...even more that it was not a "domain" sale.

I guess it does no harm to domain values, but it is very misleading. I wonder how much of the sale value was the domain and how much was the website, traffic and membership. I guess we will never know.

Another misleading or false statement in that press release was 'Sedo accounted for approximately 84 per cent of co.uk transactions in 2006' I bet they didn't even account for 48 per cent

Sedo, you should be ashamed:rolleyes:

It will be interesting if they apologise...

nope sedo need all the help they can get in there bad hour of need :)

I think you should invoice them for 10% of the sales price as exchange for letting them take the credit for the sale :p
