There are better & cheaper ways to get London in world news.
The funeral was not arranged as an advert for London and was not intended to be. But the profile of London was no doubt enhanced by the extensive coverage this event received around the world. The cost of the funeral was small compared to the coverage this funeral received. So all we're saying is that the moaners should realise that even in her death Maggie has brought benefits to Britain. The camera coverage in St Pauls Cathedral was stunning and the beautiful reading of Scripture by Amanda Thatcher was something Maggie would have been very proud of. People turned out in their thousands, and apart from a disrespectful tiny minority, the event was a fitting tribute to a great leader who saved this nation billions.
But the full ceremonial funeral was the idea of Gordon Brown (as Brassneck has pointed out) so you can't blame the Tory party or her family for agreeing to this. Over 2000 dignitaries from around the world attended. I watched some high profile American congresswomen being interviewed, and they were full of praise for Maggie and the way she elevated Britain's position on the world stage. So three cheers for Maggie!
