Perfect working dream?

Short but catchy :)

Might actually head over to Thailand next year.

A friend of mine lives there, rents out a few scooters and makes his money working on a ship.

During a drinking session a few weeks ago we decided that I should also head over to Thailand, not sure how happy the gf is with the fact that we move over to "temptation island" :)

Keep up the good stuff.

In a nutshell: grad in business 2006, split up with ex did one to ayia napa for 6 months (crazy) came back and worked in sales for a couple of years (was a "top performer" but still had people on my case the whole time (wtf)), started my first site in 2008 (sports betting), developed that til it made what i was earning in my job. I then started another site that made/makes good money. Penguin hit and messed up some really good prospects (same story as most). Now earning alright money living out here doing affiliaate stuff and domaining. Want my boy Nick to come back out but he's too busy now in corporate world!... Plus he doesnt know how to ride a scooter lol.

stay away from koh samui. total shit tip rip off land.

That's a shame. I was there about a year after they built the airport and arrived by some sort of motorised rowing boat from the mainland! It was great, but now guessing it is unrecognisable from then.

Stephen.

We went to Ko Phangan last year, right on other side of the island where its not as busy, loved the weather and beaches, highlight of the holiday was a giant gecko falling out of a tree and landing on my partner, who absolutely freaked :D

Amazing!!

Surely you're vaguely related though, being dragons?

Great stories!

Been back from hols a week now and already setting plans out to at least dream of going away for a month at a time and still working.

With working for myself for 4 years until last summer and since then trying the working world behind a desk in a office rat race for a company again - it just isn't for me.

Just need to hit targets for regular income for several areas of the online world and have decided to partner up with at least one other, a work mate who's a developer wiz (which always helps)

Setting up my stall again and getting focused me thinks!

You'd be surprised how little you need to make online to live comfortably in places like Thailand, Vietnam, etc. Just stay away from the tourist traps and bars/clubs and you could easily live off of a grand a month. Find a girl who has her own business so you don't have to subsidise her living too and you're off to a winner! I didn't do the latter :(

Congratulations to GD, another big thread created by you !

I have gone from wanting to live abroad for 6 months down to just visiting for 1 month aswell.

I'm giving up trying to work for myself. I've been wanting to for years but can never come up with a decent idea. I have money to invest, can create sites or afford to pay someone to, and can do the marketing and pr, just haven't come up with a decent idea. I'm even thinking of giving this up as i've wasted lots of time on parking, minisites and affiliates over the years and never made a decent amount of money. I then decided to create one or two decent sites to concentrate on but nothing shouts out to me.
My problem in the past has been creating minisites of poor content en masse and making a few quid on each but then losing interest and moving on to something else.
Added to that I earn good money in my office job. Don't enjoy it but can't afford to give it up.

But do you need to have a BIG idea? Affiliate marketing isn't dead - it just requires more patience to achieve and then retain rankings. Just pick a niche that you have some interest in, one where you are confident you can earn (insert £ you would be realistically happy to make). If you have the money invest say 5k into the best domain you can get in the niche (we are in unchartered territory with Google so don't risk too much) and just concentrate on the one site. Of course there is more to it than that - quality links built in a natural way ofc and content, content, content.

I am only stating what 99% of us know anyway but it sounds to me like you're overcomplicating things. If youre in the right niche and have the right traffic, you're going to make money.

Excellent thread! Some inspiring stories and ideas here.

The winters in the UK really get me down so I'd love to live abroad, but would miss having my family round the corner. I do LOVE Wales too, with the coast one way and the mountains the other. My day job seems very stable at the moment and I'm comfortable enough, but it does my head in that I have to turn up and do what someone else wants. I did apply for voluntary redundancy last year but was refused! Gutted I was...

My 'perfect working dream' is to not have a job. I'm fully prepared to earn my own money but that's not a job to me. I want to get up when I want, work when I want and not have to deal with people who I choose not to. I'm a way off yet but I'm putting the foundations in place to get there and it will happen within the next few years. I'm very confident of that. When I have children I want to actually be around when they grow up, not wasting my life earning someone else money.

I've always been entrepreneurial, right from selling stick insects in school to running an online shop through to aff marketing and onwards now. Having a job seemed like such an inefficient way to earn a living I've always assumed I'd end up not doing that. It's about quality of life, not being rich.

What a great thread, I was thinking of moving to Malta in the next few years !! we are hoping to get out there this Winter to find schooling and if there are any teaching jobs available for the missus, very dissapointed with the UK and the lack of direction, migration rising...youth unemployment rising ?? not a good mix

I spent last weekend in Singapore and I must say, what a fantastic place. Seriously thinking about moving there! EPIC!

expensive to live, especially compared to Thailand.

Yeah true. 6-7 quid for a pint IN A PUB! The calibre of women there is awesome though and the vibe is like nothing I've experienced before. Being in a country where people are generally doing well for themselves/positive was actually quite refreshing.

Did you visit Raffles for a singapore sling?

The only place I know I went to was a nightclub called Avalon - oh and the Marina Bay Sands casino which is a site to behold. My memory of everywhere else is a bit fuzzy!

oh yeah, I fly through Singapore fairly regularly on route to Australia. Beautiful and friendly. Nice part of the world.

I am smiling from Marcoose's comment about Thailand - brought back good memories :)

Ideally, I'd divide my time up - 3 months each in S.E.Asia, Nepal, San Fran, and the Cook Islands, and pop back to Wales for 2 weeks each year.

Saw that Mark (iamrofe) put Bangkok up for offers recently, hope he keeps it and gets out there for 3 months and develop the name - he won't regret it ! ;)

Just seen this haha- that was the idea.

I do still want to go and live in Thailand at some point, i've also just recently become single too, however my websites don't make me nearly enough money at the moment- so I guess that's something I have to work on, and save some money up too.

Great thread- has really got me thinking.
