One person catching a lot...

I wonder would nominet even care that someone blasts for a second then leaves it be.
2ms to nom used to be the golden standard lets assume then that with some amazing host or script you got the time was down to 0.02ms doesn't explain why non of the other 100+ bog standard 2ms tags get in during the 60ms - 200ms downtime between poll's

There again nom maybe that stupid they don't check any of this heh.

I think you might be right there...

I bet by now someone has already contacted Nominet about this (I haven't), having an even playing field is much better than spending a huge amount of time and money trying to find a random seed that may not exist as many catchers with far more experience than me have tried to find a pattern to drops but have failed.

If I'd found an edge - I'd be attempting to throw others off the trail so I've taken no notice of 'intrinsic accuracy'.

There are just too many premium catches for it to be luck or a finely tuned system.

Also I notice that there are many domains he *didn't* catch which I know he would've been chasing.

If he does have some inside trick it would make sense to let some pass through to other people to extend his game out for longer :D

Wouldn't surprise me if deny's has worked out when the best domains drop, i wouldn't be suprised if nominets supposed random drop times were intermediate gchq crackable.

He could just be working on the assumption that most 3 letters drop in the last 4 hours with the highest percentage being in the last hour ;) Of course over several hundred thousand drops this proves to not be the case - just recently.

When the next premium domain drops that's out of the standard cycle, we'll learn a lot.

Who eventually gets src.co.uk will be interesting.

As a simple watch, these are the next dozen 3L in line:

llt.co.uk
ifn.co.uk
iwm.co.uk
gic.co.uk
lti.co.uk
jrl.co.uk
hqf.co.uk
gmg.co.uk
ile.co.uk
qab.co.uk
gop.co.uk
hkm.co.uk

And another LLL today then.. Anyone else still really stumped and who still thinks its just luck?

Certainly not luck, he calls it 'intrinsic accuracy'. There's obviously issues with the randomness of drops now and no doubt ways of testing it.

There's people on here supported him, but it's quite clear that the code he uses himself is different from the code his hosted catchers use, and if I was one if them and watching him hoover up the drops they're going for I'd be a little pissed. Grey area morality as ever.

Why does everyone always assume it's something to do with randomness of drops or drop patterns (I've seen that mentioned quite a few times)?

Which hosted catching service does he run? Wasn't aware he did.

He doesn't really advertise it any more..

I *think* you don't have to pay for the service but the caught domains must go straight to domainlore....

It makes no sense to run a public drop catching service if you can actually grab well contested drops.

Unless you pull those resources for your own benefit. Crumbs for the participants, the cream for the ring master.

So the theory is, if he knew the exact time of a drop, he could hit the 16/sec DAC query limit over that hour / minute, whilst everyone else is going along at the 5/sec 24hr safe rate?

No becasue according to Nominets website they are release randomly :)

I guess if you're offering DAC hosting and could pool tags for your own benefit then yes. I was more referring to the catchers who offer the public single domain catches at £30 a time or whatever.
