Nominet shambles

the new Control Panel colour scheme is awful

the previous version was clear sharp and easy to use (8/10)

we now have feint pastel text with low contrast, making it difficult to focus and read

this is an amateur effort with obvious failings (2/10) I am surprised that anyone could think it is fit for purpose, or an improvement

it is tiring to use just for a few minutes, so registration of many .uk domains (one at a time) has become a very arduous task

Time to use this CP function...

"We'd like to hear from you

We'd appreciate feedback on your experience with our Web Domain Manager so we can make it even better.

Send us feedback"

I used the old-fashioned feedback method of the telephone. Called up Member support and explained I was having trouble reading stuff in the new interface (especially within forms). The Nominet staff member at the other end kindly took notes to feed back to the dev team. I also pointed out that transfers now take seven steps when they used to take one.

David are you reading, can you feedback? Do we have any nominet reps here anymore? Seriously, nominet have made the new panel very hard to read and use. Fundamental failings, not minor complaints. Put back the old colours and fonts at least.

Just complete the feedback form :)

By the way, Russell emailed me and will apparently respond to the Nom forum thread today.

In the domain services menu (where the cancel function is now located) it only loads 8,000 domains and I can only search within that number. Have 20,000+

How does one cancel a domain now?

Looks like you can follow my 7 steps as if you were going to transfer the domains but pick the "Cancel" button on step 7 instead. (Don't want to test it on live names in case I lose them!)

1. Log in
2. Under the "Services" pull-down, select "Domain Manager"
3. Click the "Bulk Changes" button
4. Click on "Per domain" to expand the section
5. Enter the domain(s) you want to transfer in the form box that appears
6. Click "Upload"
7. That unlocks a button marked "Transfer domain(s)" - click on this to proceed with the old-style paid transfer

That worked, but failed.

Unfortunately there was a problem submitting your change request
Internal Error. Please contact support.

Thanks anyway.

With the registrant transfer only listed in "domain services" section, I cannot use my Registrar funded account to pay for them. That sucks.

I'm running into this problem too. I've contacted Nominet about it - will see what they say and report back.

Edit: just saw invincible's comment about this above. Yes, it was possible to do this previously.

I'd consider it not to be permitted because the Registrar balance shouldn't be used to pay for Registrant services.

Why? What's wrong with paying on account and then re-billing stuff? That's managed services, right?

FWIW - Nominet just called me and confirmed that they are having some technical difficulties with this issue and that they are trying to resolve them.

In the case of Self Managed Tags, surely nominet know full well they are one and the same, perhaps accredited partners have a line drawn but in the "type" they created (which no f'ing body wanted) they shouldn't have a line.

No idea. I was speculating because there's a difference between the two but overall perhaps it isn't a problem for Nominet once they've thought about it. Where should they draw a line, if anywhere? Do they permit registrars to pay for registrant related services in other registrant accounts even if those registrants are connected somehow for example?

It gets worse. Today my entire portfolio (over 1000) names has been assigned to someone else (the last person to buy a name from me). I contacted Nominet and they have replied to say they have fixed it for me, that's it. An asset worth a significant sum of money just assigned to someone it does not belong to and no explanation is given for the error.

Wow! How did you know, email alerts?

Hi David, I definitely didn't click select everything, I transferred one name. OK, so exactly what changed:

In 'Domain List' under 'Registered to' my company name was replaced with the individuals name on over 1000 domains. I only noticed because I logged in to look for a name. I assume the whois changed. Quite alarming.

Is that in the new "Domain Manager"?

Jesus David, they really have sucked you into their vortex; be careful, when they split you out the other side, you'll wonder why performing such a simple task of making a brew requires a full team, millions of pounds on third party consultants and a new type of pastel mug that doesn't let you drink the conventional way! :D
