Wow, I'm gobsmacked that you spent 6 figures on a .org.uk just to have an exact match domain. You should have bought monkey.co.uk at the outset and spent the money on building that brand, it's infinitely better than carinsurance.org.uk.
Easy to say with hindsight. Bear in mind when I bought the domain, the exact match update hadn't taken place, and Google hadn't started actively chasing down link buyers to whack. So we got hurt on two fronts there.
As for .org.uk, would it be unreasonable to say that a monkey rescue charity would find a use for monkey.org.uk and that it would be a perfect fit
Sure, that was my only thought of a viable use for this domain. But given it would be a charity... would they not be better off buying monkeyrescue.org.uk for a fiver then using the other $7900 to actually rescue some monkeys? I think you would really struggle to get a charity to pay that kind of asking price.
I know it doesn't look that way but I'm not having a go at you, you've done well out of your decisions, certainly better than I have but domains and their value is a complex subject and personally I would say that monkey.org.uk fits the extension equally, arguably better than carinsurance.org.uk
No worries at all, I don't agree with what you're saying but I'd rather you said it. I'm not going to take any offence at anyone disagreeing with me
For me, I think you are going horribly wrong by comparing a potential charity sale to a potential commercial sale that would make 6 figures a month on page 1.
At the right (low) price, I think Monkey.org.uk is a brilliant domain for a charity. I don't think a small charity could justify the price currently being asked. And any charity looking for a domain would be small - its extremely unlikely a big charity is going to rebrand onto a totally new domain.
CarInsurance is a massive commercial phrase. I clearly landed on the wrong side of the coin flip this time, but I would absolutely take the gamble again. I think its important to be able to differentiate between making the wrong choice in the first place, and ending up with the wrong result. Sorta like hitting on 12 when playing Blackjack and being dealt a King... you did make the right bet but you just came out on the wrong side of it on that particular occasion
