Making a Domain earn £1 a week

If you want to find content you can modify LEGALLY, then do the following:-

A) Go to http://www.google.co.uk/

B) Click on "Advanced Search"

C) From the "Usage Rights" pulldown, select "free to use, share or modify, even commercially"

D) Enter your search in the top "with all the words" box

You'll get back a list of pages that have been explicitly marked with a Creative Commons license as being pages you can take content from and use in a commercial environment. You may have to provide a link back or some other minor condition, but it's all free and legal!

There is a difference between the domain being blacklisted and it not being indexed or showing up in the SERPS due to dup content etc, a change away from a parked page with fresh content and some bakclinks can get you indexed within a few days, weeks or months often depending on the strength of the backlinks.

I had posted this in the general section so apologies for anyone who has already read it but I think its more releavnt in this thread I think.

I was wondering if there is any value in picking up names with .cc prefixes.

The reason I ask is that I have seen a number of very good generics availabe in this prefix - including examples where the gb.com etc are all gone as well.

I kow the prefix itsself has little value currently but for targetting I thought the generic word in the domain might make it interesting.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

would like your opinion on those new set up minisites

hi i am pretty new to all this minisite-thing but i had been very busy setting up some one page sites like
www.airlinescanner.com
www.08eurocup.com
so far no revenue from those pages, 4 weeks old.
please folks give me an opinion about the content, style, and adplacement.
thanks a lot

Quality unique tools or content is key, I'd question whether you have achieved that with your sites.

Ad placement & CTR is more something to worry about when you have traffic that isnt converting.

Very few sites make money in 4 weeks, it takes at least a week to get into search engines.

You only have one page

You have two adverts that are google ppc banners and one of them is for British gas.

What has British gas got to do with travel?

And why use santa for? Ok it might be a possible for xmas time, but theres approx 340 days before that.

** Update

I'm talking about your airline one, obviously your american, but do you expect anyone to take the site seriously when you use shit loads and feckin?

Also British Gas is well for Britain but your an american with a dot com, so your not working well and you just go on about santa claus for some feckin reason.

It's a reasonably nice idea the newspaper tabloid type style but

when i sat in a plane from Chicago to Dublin and happend to be seated next to an old long-bearded Irish kind of Santa-Claus-Hippi, no shoes, 80s sunglasses and wearing a T-Shirt full of Stains saying: "I am the one you weren't allowed to play with when you were young". Usually i am not that talkactive but it was really bugging me to see this man, obviously living of social security being able to afford the same flight as me

I think when people mean content, they actually mean useful content, otherwise hell I would put nursery ryhmes up if I thought it sold more tickets for Virgin Atlantic.
I havent seen your other one yet, but thats probaly the same.

Mark, i'd seriously question you saying it takes 'at least' a week to get into search engines. Within 24 hours is very possible and 48-72 hr simple.

As for making money within 4 weeks, i'd be disappointed if any of my sites showed a zero return in this timescale, granted income should increase over time.

Also the reason you are seeing UK adverts on his US site is because Adsense uses GEO location to show relevant adverts, so if you were US based you would'nt see British Gas adverts.

A week is just a conservative figure, some people dont know how to get sites indexed faster.

I try not to tie myself down with saying figures that people might not be able to reach.

Having a look at a couple of sites that are on your signature, most of these are location targetted.

So probaly have lower competition for reaching the top and earning money via click thrus.

Buying a travel domain or another huge market domain name, if you can make that see results within 4 weeks then I would be very impressed.

Personally my thoughts is that most high competition websites need at least three months to mature, sometimes even upto a year before they see results.

You cant buy say travel999 and expect to be number 1 or indeed make money straight away.

If I brought a website for say Tropicana swimming pool then yes I could probaly make money via that within four weeks.

You can of course buy traffic to goto your website, or indeed use google ppc to send people there, but sometimes depending upon the website and the returns, then natural search engine hits are cheaper and more profitable.

I speak on my personal views, you speak on yours, obviously your not going to agree with me at times, as you have your own way of doing things.

Someone as new as this person wouldnt be able to do as much as you can for example as it takes time and practise.

Its was the wording 'at least' that i took objection to ;)

I'd still expect to expect to earn from any domain on any subject within 4 weeks targetting long tail phrases, granted income might not be masses but some income non the less.

Re: the targetting of Adsense if you were US based and looked at my UK sites you would still see US adverts.

My advice to the poster would as scott has already mentioned, unique (and well written) content.

Will let you know in a minute, just brought a new domain and whacking it up now, I'm not going to put masses of information on it or I could do too a degree would be a cut and paste job really but I saw possible potential in a domain name mainly based on click thrus and possible resale value.

Hopefully I might be able to make this one earn cheap and cheerful enough with only doing 2 minutes work.

Unique content is essential. By all means read an article and then write your own article about the subject and details used in the original article.

Also consider generating a list of similar / alternative keyword (perhaps using an Overture Search?) and drop a few relevant low search volume long tail phrases into the text.

Also get as technical as possible, ie if your writing about electrical equipment use all variations of the names, brand, serial numbers etc.

Nice site if that whois is yours, even made it to my favourites folder ;)

I've brought one which I think is quite nice and could probaly be worth a bit if developed but I'm just putting on a bog standard self park site and see what happens. I'll through on some adverts as well hoping for extra revenue from the site but got a feeling it might be profitable.

It is mine, thanks.

Its due a revamp soon with a restructure and some additional tools etc.

Good luck with the site.

This is an excellent thread - and the reason I joined the site!

Just to add my 2p - content really is what brings in the money, I have a site that I (foolishly) thought would run well as a forum, and make me buckets of cash.
It didn't!
Not until I started adding my own unique articles, and found that these pages were getting lots of good hits from google, for some keywords I hadn't even expected.
I'm now getting a steady $1 a day from these pages, and am adding new content fairly regularly.

Good work Andy, forums are pretty hard work and not easy to monetise, glad you turned it around into a profit.

Dont see any reason why that could be illegal. You are an affiliate of that site and are forwarding traffic to it through a legitimate domain that doesn't (by the looks of it) contravene any TM's. :)

I would suggest you think about posting links to adult sites in your sig though... think its against forum rules and admin might ask you to take them off (im sure someone will correct me if im wrong though :) )
