Making a Domain earn £1 a week

I'm currently developing a large number of my domains after a little experiment showed how profitable it can be compared to parking.

As an example, I have one domain which in the previous 6 months before I developed it made $1.96

I now have a small site on it and it brings in £500 a month.

The key to this is picking the domains that are exact matches to keyword phases that are searched for.

Within days you will be number one in MSN. Yahoo & Google will be close behind after maybe a few months and a few links from other sites.

I have never used adsense before. I read this thread and went out and regd 8 names to try it. All have now been indexed in MSN.

Earnings will (unfortunately) never meet Paul's but they have made $8.22 this month in total. Project this to the end of the month and they will have made £1 each. Doesn't seem a lot (25p a week per domain) but it equates to every domain paying for itself within 8 months, which in theory, means I can triple my portfolio every 2 years at no cost providing I can bring back 25p per week on every new name I reg.

I am now going through a radical rethink on all my parked names and know that a minisite with adsense is the way to go for me.

Big thank you for all on this thread (especially sji2671 for the PM)

I have seen the light!

Oh dear :???: I just read the above post which I wrote after me 6th beer last night.

I apologise as it reads I am a pompus git. That was not the intention.

.

Doesn't read as pompous at all mate.

We are all trying to make a living and trying new things, some of which work for some of us, some work for most of us and some don't work for others.

Sharing the success & failures helps us all through the process.

This had to be one of the best threads seen on here... cheers

OK im still very new to this but have bought many sites that havent turned a penny (single word obsure .net & .org domains). Ive got about 20 domains parked in total ticking over so thougth this must be worth a try.

domain1 had 12 UV's a month / zero income

After moving it back to hosting and adding content the same domain got listed and soon gained more hits. Spurred on form this thread ive added little content and adsense which gained $0.46 the first week with no work.

Ive been so happy with the change ive added better content and played the adword / adsense gamble which will find over 1500 hits by month end, cover ad costs and return $1 - $4. Im expecting after the first month the site should stand on its own with backlink / return traffic as im seeing this happen at the moment.

I was lucky to get a domain added to many warez forums (second on a google search posted) turning a nice parked profit. All other domains bombed so for my poor man domain portfolio the minisite route is by far the best way to cover costs with the added bonus of maybe being much more.

Ive bought a couple of other domains to try this on but seemed so obvious to try on adult domains next (oh nuts I really should read google t&c regarding porn ads lol)

Please keep this thread live its been very intresting for low budgets

Rob, you could take that attitude and say why bother doing anything if you'll never be as successful as x, y or z.

Sure that's not an average mini site, it is a tool/calculator type of mini site hence it has added viral value, that doesn't negate the value of taking a domain, adding unique content and trying to more than pay for itself, with a good domain and an idea you can spend a little longer and get a site like that for very little outlay and a good return or stick with an info based site and more modest return.

I now have 14 minisites that have landed within May. All the names are new registrations to try this out. (except 1)

Adsense total earnings for May $89.06

Adsence earnings last 7 days $37.02
4 weeks @ $37.00 = £74

Some are doing better than others, but on the whole, this equates to £5.28 per site a month.

So it totally blows my last post apart. If this keeps up all names will be paid for within 8 weeks of regging leaving the remaining 22 months as profit @ £74 per month = £1628.00

Minisites are go!

I'm becoming disolutioned with parking as more and more domains seem to be dropping out of googles index. I'm looking now at converting to mini sites/adsense however with over 200 domains this isn't going to be an overnight job.

Scooter I'm curious where you got your templates from for the sites in your sig, assuming that they are templates, and is the content (text) all your own work or is there a good cheap source somewhere especially for topics I have little knowledge of? PM if don't want to post here

Thanks

Dave

All the templates you need.

With regards to content, I find that Googleing for information held as a .doc or .xls or .psd or whatever provides content that is not indexed by Google and is therefore not punished for being duplicate.

Of course, some may sneer at using others work, I personally dont give a rats arse.

some useful links thanks, I like what you've done with Jeremy site.
Got a few domains that could work with the amazon store bit. Need to look into this some more as parking seems to be slowly dying....

One of the mistakes I have made is trying to do too many at once, now Im left for 5 or 6 half finished sites, JC included, and no time to complete any of them.

Indeed. One of the nicest 'honorific' sites I've come across.

I've got a meeting with a sub-continent software house next week who are touting for UK business. Going to see what they'll charge for a bulk project of say 100 minisites... with a few caveats on style, standards complience, seo etc.

I've got long list of freebie template sites. I'll start a new thread I think. Some of the commercial sites have freebie pages tucked away. e.g

The fact that you found it by googling proves that it IS indexed by Google!

You may have a point, however the data contained within the .doc (for example) doesnt appear to be indexed, only the content contained on th page that provides the link to the .doc to download.

Greetings all and thanks for a brill read, very informative .

Here's a thought regarding a source for getting content. I have not tried it and don't event know if it has potential .

Given that you can search for docs on P2P networks it may be that there's be an opportunity to find original content/copy??

I know some will baulk at this idea. However those who make their docs available for users of these networks (p2p) should not have an issue with copyright.

Any merit do you think?

cheers

I've also had enough of parking and the pittance you get, however I have a problem/question?

When you park a domain at sedo for example and it disappears out of the index. Is this domain now sandboxed/barred?

If you then create a minisite/affiliate site you can't really submit a re inclusion request as they won't want to index a site of adsense/affiliates? or will they?

How do you then get it indexed again?

With patience.. I have a few that were in that boat and it really seems to be luck of the draw in how long it takes for them to be indexed again - anytime between 4 weeks and 4 months Ive found.

There are loads of free template sites out there. The one in my sig came from http://www.openwebdesign.org/ I just added a contact form. Saves me from setting up email address for each site and stops the spam.

Content: I'm with firestars here.

Is that without a reinclusion request then? I thought once barred they wouldn't get indexed without one?
