Dragons Den fans will probably remember Lings Cars, we have an interview with her today on our blog which may be of interest to some of you.

On that first night, I had over 5000 unique visitors (between 8pm and midnight). The next day, I had over 10,000 visitors. This volume settled to a doubling of pre-DD levels and has stayed pretty constant since then.

In 2007, I have moved over £28m of new cars (£2.3m per month), my commission income reaching over £280,000 (£282,986 to be precise).

Busy website Lingscars.com

Some funny stuff on there too........

"This special treat for my website visitors who want Chinese cash in wallet. RMB now stronger after partial float! Americans complain too weak! Americans always complain! They complain about Iran, North Korea and Chinese currency. On Chinese banknote, they can see Mr Mao laughing at them, with big spot on his chin (really!). Cash brand new. Maybe you frame it, or give to small child as gift?

As soon as you fill in the details below, 10 visitors' money, money, money will be in post! No need to wait 21 days for delivery! If British Post Office government monopoly iron ricebowl ex-football man works OK, and doesn't steal it like Chinese postmen do, you will have free Yuan next day! - You have free Yuan, now rent cheap car! ... Ling

I think shes done very well. Really clever and unusual way of doing things, but it works!!

She has a very unique approach with her website. I quite like this bit:

Office hours: Mon-Fri 9am to 6pm
...after 6pm I making bean curd!

what a horrible website http://www.lingscars.com/

I'm surprised she's sold £20's worth to be honest, it's got to be a tax scam, got to be!

I mean mine are junk but I'd don't go round saying they turnover £x,xxx, xxx's

It looks like an animated version of million dollar homepage! There's a couple of millimetres of white space that needs filling with flashing images though :)

Grant

I was thinking the same grant :)

actually I think that site is quite clever. Although it is 'busy' and looks like its designed like that by accident - its not. things are laid out in a clever way that they draw your attention with interesting images, words and phrases which makes it unique and sticky.

Im suprised theres not a slightest hint of contextual advertising though.

I used to coach a Ling in a girls hockey team - she was goalkeeper - I remember she was only 16 and ran off with a 30yo married bloke...

I don't think she does say that, she is an affiliate basically. Her turnover is her commission not what the merchants do. I think she says her turnover is about £280K

She gave that impression on the Dragon's Den, I remember Duncan Ballantyne's eyes light up. Although agree it is affiliate, and I don't blame her for saying it, but that is hell of a figure through that site.

From her website "This site may be fun, but I am really quite professional and I sell over £1,000,000 of new cars and vans
every month. My customers are happy! Read LETTERS! Click with confidence! Please to browse! - Ling"

I can't get out of my head that this is a tax scam, why would anyone buy a car through that website?

She is certainly making me feel stupid because I just can't work it out :-D:-D

I haven't checked the figures, but the prices are probably competitive in some cases. Ugly sites can sell!

I heard from someone else that they know a few people who use her and she has very reasonable prices so I presume she must be competitive and if she is doing volume she can cut a good deal.

She is certainly not lacking confidence neither,

well good luck to her if she can make it pay, better than sitting on her backside all day.

interesting... I seem to remember her turnover was pretty high but the bottom line was her profit was'nt that great...

lingscars.org.uk free to reg....

I can't understand how that site converts!... Its crazy! :???:

Rich

Is the tax aspect not just that the Govt has made it less and less attractive for employees to have company cars, because of the tax, so more people are choosing an annual allowance added to their salary instead, out of which they can buy a car.

As they know they have a guaranteed so much a month coming in for a car, they can afford to commit to a three year lease deal, or whatever it is, so Ling was at the right place at the right time with the right product.

When I was referring to a tax scam, I only meant that businesses with such a high turnover and very little profit usually start alarm bells ringing. Plus that site wouldn't make me want to put my credit card into it, never mind turning over £1m

Tax scam :)

hehehe, you lot have conspiracy theories on the brain.

My t/o (ie. invoiced income) in 2007 was £283k+VAT. That means I moved about £2.3million of cars a month. Just to be clear.

Thanks for the LOVELY comments about my website :)

It is interesting to note than my t/o was £125k when I was asking Bannatyne to invest, so... he could have more than doubled his money in 1-year. Sometimes the Dragons are not-so-smart, eh? He would not accept 5% for £25k, but then what does it matter the % if you are doubling?
