Any explanation?
Glad Denys is on top of this, just makes me shiver to think what goes on on other auction sites, the amount of stuff i've got off eB...

Wth I was just on phone to my GF.

I did not shill bid on the domain - none of those bids on it were from me and you can ask Denys if you want.

EDIT: I have no idea WHY he thinks that I did, but I didn't - I have never used a VPN in my life and wouldn't know how to.

I think from reading it, Denys's system caught suspicious activity attempting to bid on it. The system stopped it before the bid was submitted.

So whilst all of those bids were genuine, it appears the next bidder wouldn't have been.

It does say in the rules that new users may be restricted from making big opening bids? It looks like a new bidder?

As Greywing said, the shill bid was stopped before it was placed. You'd best speak to Denys as he seems certain it was you and he seems to know what he's doing!

Grant

I think its good that Denys is taking action against this but has he even given Ashley a chance to explain his side before posting his name in a shame message? Has he proof it was definately him?

One would assume that he'd have got in touch with Ash before the big red boxed post?

I am not doubting Denys' integrity - I am sure he has proof that an attempt at shill bidding was made. However, this was not me and I have no idea who it was. It could be a friend trying to help me out or an enemy trying to hurt me. However I really hope I can find out and will talk to Denys.

I am not angry, just really confused right now.

EDIT: Can someone PM me his email, I dont have it anywhere.

I think that's a very good point actually. The right to respond first is definitely in order, otherwise if it isn't correct, there could be a case of libel here...

A freind helping out ? Isn't that the same thing your cheating !

If it was a friend trying to help me then they were VERY misguided - I do not mean me telling them to, I mean them doing it without my knowledge in an attempt to help me. There are people that would.

Seriously, whoever did this, if you're reading this. Step forward, or just email me - I can take the blame because when this does come to light, my rep is already in tatters.

well, maybe Denys needs to make more information available, certainly to Ashton and Grant

I will say this, innocent until proven guilty, plus Ashton has always seemed totally honest on acorn so personally prepared to give benefit of doubt in first instance

he's just updated the note in the big red box providing some more details of the attempted shill bid....

Sorry I cant stay here longer tonight but the mechanics representing the insurer are coming to my house at 9:00 tomorrow. I have to go to bed but will be on tomorrow as soon as I can be.

I think Ash is in shock and I don't think this thread is the right venue for the involved parties to sort the issue out, nor, with respect, should it become a kangaroo court here...

One should not assume anything (ASS u Me?).

Although i understand the owner of domainlore trying to remove shill bidders, I think a less damaging message could have been posted indicating that it was under investigation until Ash could have a chance to look at what evidence there is to indicate shill bidding. If it turns out that it was not Ash, his name has now been damaged in the domain world in respect other websites publishing the news. Give it a few days and that will be on thousands of websites.

Where would he stand if it was a genuine mistake and not him? Surely there would be a massive possibility of a legal claim in favour of Ash.

Agree - and fair number of Acorn members have tweeted or retweeted this already. At least this thread is excluded from Google indexing.

Stephen.
