Is Bitcoin the Next Big Thing?

My O/H has a life expectancy 10 years less than mine (due to health), so I need to ensure enough left over for strippers.

I suppose your outlook is also enormously different if there’s another generation to worry about leaving assets to, or whether you can happily splurge the lot...

Up 10%+ today! I made my decision and nothing has happened to change it but the urge to buy in is strong...

Anyone needing a distraction, Elon Musk is sending his old Roadster out past Mars in 20 minutes, all being well! Live feed:

That was just brilliant.

Tried with debit, straight from account, but no joy. I'll leave it there, maybe it was a sign not to put more in lol

Both my banks have now blocked me from sending money to coinbase.

Can those who have found blocks with their banks name the banks ? I haven't tried with Barclays yet.

I had issues with HSBC, though it did allow payment of a 'small' amount i.e. £10!!! Anything in the hundreds or above, forget it!

Try the Revolut bank, you can also open your own EURO account to perform a SEPA transfer and avoid the Coinbase fees*

*the price could change considerably in the hours waiting for the transfer
I set up Revolut yesterday and will be linking it to Coinbase today, because above all else, it may allow me to take profits out of Crypto if I want to (though that is not the intention). One thing you have to make sure of is that your name is exactly the same as on Coinbase for it to work; I'm waiting for Revolut to add my middle name, as you cannot edit once verified.

For anyone thinking of signing up (if CatchDrop doesn't mind), my referral is https://revolut.com/r/iank423 - no benefit to me, though it may give me access to their own Crypto exchange once launched!

Course not, the Crypto on Revolut has been unlocked to public, there's no facility to send/receive crypto though.

My revolut doesn't have middle name and the transfers to Coinbase still worked ok.
Good to know, I can't get the Crypto on Revolut but I'm not a premium member, and have only just requested it. It needs the ability to transfer crypto though to make it beneficial.

I've had Revolut change it now anyway, was fine; just need to transfer a small sum in to Coinbase to verify, then at least I know I have options for paying in/out.

It is rather quiet ;)

(but annoyed it has gone up so soon, I never did top up!)

Due to my current banks blocking money transfers to exchanges, I have now created an account with Revolut. Looks good so far. I think with the banks blocking transfers, they are just encouraging these people to swicth banks. They have done with me anyway. I don't like being told what to do with my own money.

I was able to successfully send a 'test' transaction to verify my Revolut account on Coinbase. It was actioned by Revolut within 2 hours and to my surprise (as it said 2 days), Coinbase received it 1 hour later, so it does seem that is a viable way 'in and out'. I'm sending money to opposite way now, so we'll see how long that takes to arrive. I agree though, I don't want my bank telling me what I can buy with my own money, which only goes to send consumers to alternatives and in to crypto.

Rob - yup, no doubt!

are the blocks by Banks or Visa though?
Impossible to tell, might have just been a glitch at the banks end, Visa/Mastercard's end, or Coinbases end, but when I spoke to HSBC (I have a direct account manager so not a generic customer support rep) they couldn't tell me, just said that they can see the attempts, but not the reason why they failed!

Not the only one mentioning this though, for a wide variety of UK banks that suddenly are making it difficult without announcements (at least Lloyds came out and said it). It just goes further to show how much the banking system has control of your own money, and in this day and age, is frighting.

Almost as shocking as how quiet the nah-sayers are today...sure they'll be back tomorrow :D

I'm personally grateful that the banks aren't allowing people to run up huge debts gambling on funny money.... if it caused some sort of financial crisis then we'd all have to pay for it.

You can't buy shares on a credit card either, and you can't buy casino chips.

Banks are just treating crypto like they are all other types of gambling.... as they should.

It could be because of a huge increase in volume? People failing to use their cards with Lloyds or other banks that have banned transactions may be trying to use backup cards drawn on other banks. That has triggered a tightening in the fraud prevention algorithms which are catching more people?

Or it could be a blanket ban - but you'd think that would have made it into the press given how big the institutions concerned are (and the fact that the banks seem to see it as "good PR" to clamp down, rather than as something to hide)
