No, Cambridge.co.uk isn't for sale. Neither is my other main geo domain, Britain.co.uk.

I do have various other geographics that would be for sale for the right offer - if you download the categorised list from my site (in sig) you'll see them sorted under "Places".

I haven't seen a new user generate so much interest for a long time - but those are some special domains. cardiff.co.uk seems the pick of the bunch for me.

I think most of the domainers on here have got some geo domains. Ours include yorkshiredales.com, greatyarmouth.com, goldersgreen.co.uk and quite a few other places and towns. We've been meaning to develop them for ages.

Pleased that the domains are generating interest...
My biggest challenge now is to establish the best way to develop them so they offer a fantastic service... not just provide google ads...

considered email, web 2.0, social networking, property, jobs, motors, what's on guides etc... Have about 16k earmarked for development and rolling out successful websites...

Any ideas anyone!

Urm well the most popular idea with Geo names is portals,
if your going to do this, e.g. for cardiff

you can have a cardiff community
cardiff businesses - directory, of real businesses, like in the yellow pages and get paid for featured listings
General information about the cardiff area, hotels etc
Cardiff news feeds, from the bbc.co.uk/wales etc.

Actually, it's the opposite. For example, if you become THE portal for a large city, you can then start approaching businesses in the city that don't yet have websites to offer them web hosting, web design etc.

Since I am assuming that you will (at that point) already have good traffic to your portal, you can combine the basic site building service with some kind of ad package so that they will receive some visitors as soon as they're set up by virtue of their new listing on the geo-portal and the associated ad you put in place for them.

Cardiff.co.uk is a badly developed site, as I'm not web designer.
Even so, it gets around 17,000 page views a month... gets 90% of traffic from people typing cardiff.co.uk into address bar. Gets 10% from search. i.e MSN for 'cardiff restuarants'.

Sorry Matt, but with a few more pounds in your paypal account, you will not be able to buy a city name.. As a guide, Leicester.co.uk was up for private auction 4 months ago with a reserve of 20k.

If you do, then let me know - I'm quite happy to eat my words!
