What is the secret?

if that was the case, i'm sure our customers would have the inteligence to notice increases in their #usage commands

i cry with laughter sometimes at some of the conspiracy theories that you guys come up with - i love the fact that only 2, maybe 3 people in this thread actually accept that it's their own doings that they aren't as successful as they should be.

if you want any chance of competing with the top names, get off your high horses and do some work instead of posting pointlessly on here

Ooooh DAC threads popping up is one example of a regular pattern for sure :)

I would hope all of this can be sorted out in a nice open manner without:

- legal writs flying about
- servers being hacked and grepped for names of tags
- dodgy dossiers being emailed about with spurious links

...as has happened in the past.

Catching is a comparatively small 'community' so it is quite low what some people have resorted to - but there again being the nice guy probably doesnt get you names :)

That's not quite the same as saying you don't take advantage of having multiple DAC connections, is it?

Incidentally this thread is not directed towards yourself, just a general comment that I think increased access to Nominet's systems is unfair.

Thanks,

P.

Why do I always get dragged back to this forum!

Anyway, with regards to the posts above I don't have too much to add:

But on Philipp's post I do:

I think what you've posted is extremely unfair on us, to say we're gaining some sort of advantage from our customers is a complete stab in the dark, yet you say it with so much certaintly. One day you will all see the above for what it is...a completely unfounded remark.

Until that day i'll go hide in the corner again, wish you all the best :)

Now then Jonno. Pot, Kettle, Black or don't you recall your previous posts? Here's one to jog your memory:

Hi Jordan,

I'm not directing any gripes at you, all my posts have been general comment. I certainly don't have animosity towards successful catchers but I would like to see a level playing field here.

Also it's important to state that I'm not certain what's going on either - but it seems to me that limiting DAC access quota to 1 connection per member would be fairer.

Best wishes,

Philip.

So you're telling us that the commercial code on customers servers doesn't have some kind of debugging/logging in it that writes certain performance related data in it? And that in the past/present you've not used this as an analysis tool?

Since you're the only ones with server access...

You don't have to be using the customers allocation to have an advantage.

no, we have never analysed any data aquired from our customer systems for our own advantage, ever.

also, i'd like to point out that we have been in our 'successful phase' for a lot longer than we have had customer systems for anyway.

i'm not going to answer any more questions - it's turning into bitchiness now. my reason for posting was not to be interrogated, but to voice my opinion on what is "fair".

no need to throw your dummy out of the pram.

A simple question I'm sure that most have at least thought about. You answered it, enough said.

The last time that a non-random element was discovered it name drops, there was a considerable amount of name calling. Including some directed at me by Nominet. There is a lot of money involved here and people just want to know if it's a fair game.

If there is a pattern that anybody can discover, then that's fair.
If it requires facilities that are not available to all members, then it's not fair.
I think that if domains are available before it says on DAC, it's not fair.
If some people have had inside tip-offs, then it looks like fraud.

The bottom line is that there is something that isn't as we are advised by Nominet. Anybody want to disagree with that?
I would be nice to know where we stand.

I would be interested to know, but going of past experience this is something we will never know unfortunatly.

no, the bottom line is that you havent looked as hard as other people, hence you deserve less reward. as said above, i can assure you that you have the same tools and resources as i always have.

This thread quickly deteriorated since last night :(

I would like a drop system that changed pattern each month, if it was constantly changing then would be much fairer on everyone. Lets face it any system that stays the same regardless would always have one or two who would fair better.

Having met and spoken to Johnno for a number of hours I would suggest he was a sincere and honest chap.

This thread subject always deteriorates - it follows exactly the same well worn pathway every time...and goes nowhere.

Time to lock?

hope nobody commits seppuku after learning past methods of supreme catching.. =D

(if EPP changes the way it works, you don't have long to wait :)
