So many offers and strings - So I'll ask the question.

If you want to catch .co's the nano-second they drop what is the best way?

Do you have to use a existing service or is there a good piece of software that can compete?

Simple question - Just add your site or a link to the script and lets see who gets the most votes???

C'mon...

If you want to catch yourself you will need DAC access which means you need to be a nominet member - total cost in first year around £600, you will then need a catching script - the only one I know of that you can buy is from Dale (azooza) at droppings.co.uk - cost £2k. You'll also need a decent server to run it on. This is really the only way you'll have a chance at top generics.

Failing that you're left with caught, snapnames, dropcatcher etc etc.

To catch a name, the program is actually quite simple, submit the name to the DAC, check the reply, if unregistered, submit a registration request - repeat until the name is registered. The complex part comes with tuning this and hosting it :)

I've had reasonable success with my code and catch a number of names for me and my customers.

As Grant suggests, the only other route is to sign-up at a good selection of drop catchers as this increases your chances of catching the domain. The good domains tend to have a lot of competition though :)

Thanks Grant - much appreciated. We've actually built a new DAC hosting service which uses EPP and not PGP. We have clients using it that migrated from the Windows (PGP) version that you see on www.droppings.co.uk - we're just working now on the landing pages for the site and it will go public on June 1st. We have an ad campaign booked here with Acorn which starts then.

However, it's open for business right now if anyone wants to PM me for further details.

We're also taking drop bookings at £50 (no win, no fee). We don't catch for ourselves so we don't compete with our clients. We did actually catch some during the testing phase, but that won't happen very often.

Lists are £50/month.

Cheers,

Dale

Dale I will be coming back to to you on this - but right now I'm trying to find a script that works to market the names...

Thanks Jim, we also have something in the works to address the marketing of our clients' catches, and the names of other trusted colleagues in the industry. Will make an announcement here soon.

Dale how are you getting on as far as the marketing side of thing are going?

Now that the dropsystem site is finished, we're working on a new project to assist domain purchases and sales. Can't say much more than that at the moment but it'll be a couple of weeks yet and will be announced here and by press releases.
