What is a Brandable?

The 20 year 0% finance deal you where offering on £5k

OK he can't get 5% finance so 10% - still only £10 per week.

Still economically very viable

He fills up his own time in year one and eventually takes on more piano teachers in other areas eventually having teachers in the whole of the uk taking a percentage for filling their diaries with pupils.

QUOTE=websaway;418298]As a matter of interest if you were a piano teacher and you had the choice of branding your services between:

PianoTeacher.co.uk
JohnEvens.co.uk
JohnEvensPianoTeacher.co.uk
PianoPlayingIsMe.co.uk

Which would appeal.

Not meaning to put you on the spot so OK if you don't reply.[/QUOTE]

In this example, I would actually go for piano teacher.co.uk as JohnEvans.co.uk sounds more suited for a blog and the other two aren't great. But generics are only better in some situations, for example where only one service/product is offered where there is no intention/possibility of diversifying.

Websaway your Character ;) and I've enjoyed the banter..

All the best

OK so invent a non generic brandable for this example which the piano teacher could find more appealing than pianoteacher.co.uk

Grades.co.uk (as in grade 1/2/3 etc.)? MusicalFingers.co.uk? I'm sure there are loads of other suitable brandables for a piano teacher but can't think of many.

And I believe the more brandables you invent the more valuable PianoTeacher.co.uk becomes.
It would take years, if ever, to get grade to the same degree of public consciousness that piano teacher already is today.

But the best businesses are built through repeat customers so people won't care what a business is called if the service is exceptional. But for an established business offering piano lessons using a brandable domain, they won't be competing with other businesses when their brand name is typed into a search engine.

I think though we are talking about getting customers in the first place.
You can't keep customers you don't have.

Fair point, if people are typing pianoteacher.co.uk as opposed to using a search engine or if they continue to give any weight to EMDs.
