I've been wanting to set up a forum on this topic for a while and got around to whipping something together today. Please take a look and tell me what you think.

United husbands in agony (uhia.com)

As the title suggests, UHIA is pretty much an Online Man Cave, where we can all go to discuss the pains and the joys of married life (plus discuss the kids, technology, sports, etc.)

It's based on SMF with:
1. corel blu theme
2. pretty urls mod
3. ad management mod

Any thoughts, ideas and comments appreciated, especially on the following:
1. the idea and direction
2. other necessary SMF mods
3. design/layout
4. discussion forums to add/change
5. promotion and seo of a forum (especially on this topic)

It would be great if anyone here who is in agony (or who has advice) could join and post (even if under a pseudonym). As a thank you, the first 50 members to create 50 useful topics will each receive a pin badge (see below)

Thanks for any thoughts

Thanks for letting me know GDG.

I think it was a mod rewrite issue with the pretty url mod (I think you were getting forwarded to the registration page on another one of my sites sharing the same server!)

Anyways it should now be fixed and the registration link should work (or register here)

I'm still hoping for feedback but I have to say that I'm pretty pleased with myself. It's amazing what you can do if you just get a couple of hours to focus on something.

I think with too many ideas and not enough serious goal setting and follow-through, things just don't happen.

Any tips for effective goal setting...

One pic that I'll share here (others on the site: wife's hair) is of me trying to freak my wife out when her hair in the shower turned into an image of Jesus

GREAT idea for a site - I guess the acronym came first and the name to fit ?

I registered OK, and look forward to sharing some pains :)
Reckon it has viral potential if you get enough sufferers with the time, to share the link.
What about a 'tell a friend' simple form to em the URL to best mate(s) in agony "Saw this and thought of you !"
Perhaps make a favicon on the joined hands image to make the tab sticky (I've just had to hunt for it twice. Too many acorns in't browser !)

All the best with it

Thank you Bull.

My memory might be playing tricks on me but I think that this was one of the things I had in mind when I picked up uhia .com and .co.uk.

Great ideas too. I'm gonna add the favicon and figure out the TAF form. Thanks again.

UHIA. Not a very memorable acronym. I would put the H first makes easier recall, a proper word like gosh.org.uk have would IMO be better but something like HUBAF husbands united by agony forum is easier to recall. Once you get past three letters in an acronym the closer to a word the better even if it's longer. This of course is IMO.

Thanks for your comments webs - I do get what you're saying.

For this project I liked that it sounded like an awkward/boring acronym - I feel like it makes it seem like something official and then you realize what that it's not as official as you first though. It almost disguises the fun a little whereas a brandable domain hints at the fun before a person has thought about it.

I'm interested to see what others think.

Thanks Blossom.

@websaway I just remembered that unitedhusbands.com and .co.uk both forward to the acronym. Also the twitter name is @unitedhusbands and FB is /unitedhusbands (these are a bit more brandable but I thought the main site should stay as UHIA)
