.uk Whois changes (22nd May)

Yes. As a tag holder if I change the tag its instant. The out of our control part is for another registrar to process the transfer in request to the registrant. There is now no way for a 3rd party to check on status of the transfer...well done GDPR. More nonsesene made up by people inventing bad ideas to justify their jobs ;).

Much much safer to pay Nominet the £10+VAT, surely? Then there's absolutely no doubt. Once the transfer's been processed, the domain's gone.

I was chatting a guy at my local waitrose, he was saying there are about 50 new rules GDPR has introduced to every "partner" (what they call staff) at waitrose, the one which blew his mind was...

If they find a wallet, keys, phone, even if there is a piece of a paper saying if found, phone they are still unable to phone as a business to tell you they have your property because they don't have permission.

Speaking of helpful GDPR.

They're obviously completely misreading the legislation then. There's absolutely nothing to stop them calling them and telling them they've found their wallet/keys/phone. They're not marketing to them in any way, shape or form and have a legitimate interest (and moral one too I would argue) to contact them.

That's only because they're being more cautious than necessary (polite way of saying "they have no idea what they're talking about). If GDPR really meant you can never ever communicate with anyone you've not previously communicated with under any circumstances whatsoever, all commerce would instantly cease.

Oh, and houses would burn down and people would die, because you don't have existing relationships with the fire brigade or ambulance service either...

Sorry guys, can't get involved in this discussion anymore, don't have permission.

I think everywhere has just gone insane, way way overboard and being mega-cautious because the fines are huge, and the odds are good the person to get raked over will be the example to keep everyone else in line (could be wrong and they could be softly softly).

I think wetherspoons response (I haven't looked too deeply into it) but they basically just deleted their customer database and decided its better to not have any, now thats an over-reaction.

I spoke to someone the day before the GDPR deadline who asked me to do the wetherspoons response for his database, however, when I asked about the current and future bookings in the system he realised it was a bad move, I wonder how many businesses lost required data in rushing to comply with similar expert GDPR "advise"?

Wasn’t the Wetherspoon’s case just another Tim Martin stunt ?

Each pub had its own Facebook / Twitter and things were getting out of hand with random photos and political posts by managers:

The pesky customers had started talking to each other ;)

So he shut it down and now he can ‘spoon feed’ them his own messages over a cheap pint:
