misinterpreted those Nominet statements
Unfortunately nothing remotely surprising in their answer.
Nominet have shown all through the process, since the first face-to-face sessions for V1, that they are not in the business of supplying answers.
That's the way they see the consultation, with themselves as a "black hole" that absorbs opinions and feedback, but which releases nothing at all for the duration of the consultation process.
There's nothing anyone can do externally to force answers when none are forthcoming. If there was, we'd have them already - it's not for want of trying!
Well I thought there may be a change at the end of the round table (10th July).
Nominet stated it took the points on board made about the previous consultation process
and it would endeavour to be
more transparent and answer questions raised about .uk.
Also the comment on Lesley Cowley's blog on 15th July:
We listened to the feedback that we received and we have adapted the proposals in response.
As promised, we have now put our revised proposals up for public scrutiny once again.
And the Chairs statement in the recently published 2012 Nominet financial statements:
This changing landscape may also mean taking what might appear to be bold moves.
For example, our recent exploration of combining opening up registrations at the second level
with enhanced security features, which has become known as direct.uk.
Even though this issue had been considered previously in the UK and
elsewhere in the world in different forms, given the changing competitive landscape
it is legitimate for us to look at it again to assess how the environment may have changed.
As ever, listening to the views of stakeholders is a key part
of our decision making process regarding whether to proceed.
Plus:
An important part of our public interest work involves taking a responsible approach to the .uk domain name space.
We have continued to put the .uk policy process, which underpins the way in which the .uk domain space operates, to the test.
There has been further engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, bringing opposing viewpoints together so we can
ensure all perspectives are taken into account and inform decision making.
Obviously I have misinterpreted those Nominet statements, it seems leopards don't change their spots!
