UK Leaves the EU - What happens next?

What on earth are my posts about racial discrimination being rated "funny" for?!

The Tories have to unite. The window for long term domination is wide open. Labour have been laughing stock since Corbyn was elected. He's hanging on because he wants to be leader when the chilcot inquiry is released. He is desperate to see Blair brought to book.

I don't know so much. I don't think one party domination would be necessarily good as a way of uniting the nation after what has just happened.

We're leaving yes, but the people who voted remain should have a voice no matter their political allegiance. And no, I am not wanting to overthrow the result etc etc - But we are a democracy where everyone should have their say.

Many if not most remain MPs accept the will of the people, most remain voters accept the fact it is happening, so should be allowed to have a say in how it is achieved. It is all a part of moving forward together.

I think anything else would be too divisive.

So Boris Johnston now states that we will continue to have free trade with Europe, in a single market, and that there will continue to be free movement of people. Apparently he thinks it wasn't about immigration.

Sounds like he is talking about joining the EEA to me. So we would be out of the agriculture and fisherie legislation, but otherwise the same as now. Except of course we wouldn't have any representation in the EU. We would continue to pay, albeit less, but then we would receive no rebate.

Probably for the same reason as I rated it as funny (more appropiate icon not available).

Asking people to report racist abuse to a Facebook page is ..... well........ laughable.

This great country of ours has a thing called 'Police' who gather evidence, and can prosecute if need be. If you witness racial abuse, go to the police, not some random Facebook page!

Sorry I replied before I saw your reply. I agree 100%.

Just saw an interesting interview on the BBC with Michael Heseltine ...
The gist of it was ...
Johnson, Gove and Farrage should be put in charge of negotiations - that way there can be no confusion on what they claimed the UK would get, and what the UK actually gets ... any blame / congratulations fall fairly with them.

He also suggested that there should be a second referendum so that the electorate can agree to what the three have obtained in negotiations.

For the first I tend to agree. For the second, just not feasible, not enough time to negotiate and then hold a referendum and what happens if the electorate vote no? Article 50 will have been called and the worst case scenario is leaving the EU with no agreements in place ...

Just something that irritates me. I've heard about three MPs on the leave side saying "the majority of the country have voted to leave" ... NO THEY HAVEN'T. 52% of 72% voted to leave ... that is not a majority of the country, just a majority of those who chose to vote.

If you're holidaying in Europe this summer, be aware that you might be liable to a "currency surcharge" depending on how your travel agent's arrangements and your package. Companies are obliged to absorb 2% of any increase, and to give you the option of cancelling if the surcharge would be over 10%, but other than that they have a right to impose a surcharge.

If you are holidaying in Europe this year consider yourself one of the fortunate ones, spare a thought for the people who never holiday at all, bite the bullet and enjoy.

BTW, I am hoping very strongly to be proved wrong on this, but I have a nasty feeling that violence following an England exit from Euro 2016 (if they don't win the whole tournament, I mean) will be worse than any of the incidents so far.
With respect you are wrong about most things so fingers crossed on this one.

As someone who in April of this year was predicting we would join the Euro his opinion shouldn't be relied on. He mustn't have noticed that it was and IN OUT vote. I do agree Farage should have a role in leaving. There are no negotiations on remaining the vote was to leave.

To be clear it's the majority of the voters.

Yeah but that's OK, we can hold a petition to have everything replayed if the result doesn't go the way we want

I saw it. Sounds to me like he wants to see them fail so he can say 'I told you so'. A very childish attitude and no good for anyone. What we need is the people best qualified for the job.
I have seen this attitude all over social media, it's counterproductive and very immature.

Yes, I agree that was the vote, and that was the result. But we are all looking ahead, and it is interesting hearing someone's point of view as to what some options are.

And, yes the majority of voters - I agree. I am getting irritated by some leave politicians saying "majority of the country", that's all.

It likely is the majority of the country going off the representative sample.
