.UK Announced

They're not handling their URL's very well , brands2life.com

They are handling URL's well they have opted to develop the .com because it's a safe bet and they have set their co.uk up for email and a sponsored sales lander page, which is the level that Nominet has reduced co.uk to.

I've just written to John Lettice at 'El Reg' about this entire fiasco. Hopefully they'll pick it up shortly.

brands2life co uk seems to be a sponsored sales lander page.

Email massages going to totally wrong place. This just demonstrates how event more confusing would be to have .UK. I hope this gets picked up by media.

The media really need to step up to the plate soon. I know that there has been a few stories about Nominet in the media but there should be a lot, lot more.

Questions in the House

Is there a question being asked today about .uk?

That is what my MP thought was going to happen at my meeting last week.

She asked me for some ideas of extra questions on .uk if it did happen, that she could ask from the floor as it was to late for written questions.

On sky there is a BBC news channel that just features the House of Parliament, not expecting much but it will be helpful to have the .uk topic aired to a wider audience.

Just noticed from the website you posted for the link to the House of Commmons is www.Parliament.uk so they are alright they have already have their .uk!

Nominet distribution

It was posted on this thread a while ago that Nominet emailed all UK registrars about the Nominet Internet Awards 2013.

I was specitical about this as Nominet had only emailed registrars on the nom-announce list (Nominet will still not release the number) when advising about the very important .uk consultation.

So I asked Nominet:

Can you please advise me – which Nominet email list I was on to receive this email below or was it received because I’m a UK registrar?

and I did receive this reply from Nominet:

You would have received this email because when mailing registrars about marketing initiatives we use the admin contact list.

I see the .co.uk digital banner campaign announced on the Nominet registrar site:

Are now starting to appear:

Thanks for sharing that Andrew. I clicked on the link and it took me to agreatplacetobe.co.uk and I searched for a .co.uk domain. When I went to the registration process it throws up a random selection of registrars you can use to register your .co.uk domain. I clicked thro' this a few times and I think a number of acorn domain members appeared. I'm sure all those acorn members would be aghast to see themselves on this site especially now that nominet are trying to introduce direct.uk

I opted in to agreatplacetobe.co.uk quite some time ago and I still believe that .co.uk is the place to be, so why would I have a problem with being linked to from Nominet?

Nominet in my opinion are almost certainly not introducing the .uk as laid out in there consultation document.
The reason I think this is because they could not possibly be promoting the co.uk to small businesses in the knowledge that the .uk will be introduced and the newly registered co.uk's would have no rights to registering the equivalent .uk.

But haven't they repeatedly said that direct.uk is a different product? If they're holding to that line then there's no reason not to promote .co.uk. You can't make any assertions from this.

Hi - Sorry I've edited my post. I assumed all of us who opposed direct.uk are opposed to nominet using the agreatplacetobe.co.uk website at the present time.

I think good .co.uk as portfolio holds are fine, regardless of the .uk outcome. Just keep them prime. Trying to amass .com domains as an alternative isn't a viable option on a keyword-by-keyword basis unless your pockets reach to the depths of the Marianas Trench.

I agree. Final sales value will, however, very likely be lower than could have been without .uk intro.
