Should I be reconsidering Sedo as a secondary sales venue

Taking a conservative view on the amount of fake offers I get a week and the number of domains sedo lists compared to me, I calculate they will get around 2500 fake offers per week.

Good luck Sedo :)

This is in discussion at the moment and not finalized. We are looking at ways to increase buying of domains through our platform. Nothing is concrete as yet. The offer process will be a secure one.

How much promotion goes on when you run a premium auction? Is it just to people in the business? Do you target investors? Do you target end users?

Why don't your try and target end users more?

I think if someone is serious about making an offer they won't mind signing up for an account.

The best way to improve Sedo in the .uk space is a comprehensive local presence.

Transfer agents with executive powers, UK bank account(s), binding contracts under UK law.

That's right. What are the legal responsibilities that Sedo have to the buyers/bidders, sellers and the contract as a whole? It's not an eBay model, that's for sure, but they take a bigger slice of the pie for what they do!

The best way to improve Sedo's presence in the UK is to make sure EVERY visitor who goes to Sedo.co.uk sees a site that lives and breathes .co.uk. For Sedo.co.uk (NOT Sedo.com) .co.uk should be the default for featured listings, top domains for sale, recent sales, interesting auction listings, search extension, press releases, blog posts, help pages etc etc.

Make it DIFFICULT for people simply browsing the Sedo.co.uk site to stumble across the tens of millions of "junk" (to them) domains that are non-.co.uk, non-.com.

That's the only way to effectively tackle an audience that will largely be looking for .co.uk in preference to .com (see Nominet's extensive research on the overwhelming appeal of .co.uk for local companies) and certainly with virtually zero interest in any non-.com, non-.co.uk extension.

My Constructive criticism is that Sedo don't seem to have a streamlined decision process. If you found the system was being abused with false offers, it just feels like you would have 20 memos, 15 meetings and then decide what to do about it.

When I talk to namedrive, they give you the impression that something might change within 24 hours.

Plus I agree with others about .co.uk's seem like a sideline for you, even on the sedo.co.uk site.

My understanding is its currently German based law.

Their legal jurisdiction doesn't extend beyond that point.

They may have a different set-up for the USA.

I agree with Edwin that they've 'spent' all this time & money on a site restructure and not considered the geo-locational aspects of tld's and biasing the default displays to the location of the domain. i.e sedo.co.uk -> .uk, sedo.de -> .de sedo.com -> global with defaults as .com/net...

Sedo seem to be resing on their laurels and steadily drifting into mediocrity.

Regarding promoting premium auctions - We do banner advertising on the homepage and run of site. The US market has some banners for the GD auction run on domainer outlets as well. We also do an email campaign to all UK/INT users, a news item, which gets syndicated via our RSS, and a Twitter post. If there are some stand out names we will do additional communications and maybe even PR. Our outside sales team also has contacts with end users to whom they communicate names for sale in the auctions that may be of interest.

That's all just sales patter there. Sounds good but means nothing.
Perhaps sedo UK should team up with acorn for UK names. I'm sure Admin will help you out for a small fee ;)

Im sure this would be good for the resale of domains but the last thing people want is end users finding domains here for reseller prices.

That means you think most buyers on Sedo are end users.. I think that's not the case. Most end users have no idea Sedo exists.

I think you will be suprised tbh the domain world is researched by marketing companies, SEO companies etc and sedo (not defeding them in anyway) do actually get to them sort of companies. If you are meaning the local joe blogs then i would say its a 50 /50 slit on that

I suppose for high end domains, sedo probably have contacts.
But the only way you will reach an end user with a run of the mill domain is by listing it at sedo, and also parking it there. If it's not parked there then Joe Bloggs has no idea how to contact you. But parking a domain at Sedo means accepting their measly 1p a click no matter what the category. The parking revenue at sedo is a joke at best.
