Shame on Jill Finney, shame on the executives.

"Adding to the controversy, former CQC director of operations David Johnstone claimed on Monday he was sacked after raising concerns about how it was being run.

He said he was escorted off the premises then hit with a gagging order after putting together a plan to introduce fundamental changes in the organisation.

Mr Johnson was only in his post for 13 weeks before he was fired by Ms Bower for suggesting the watchdog needed improving "right across the board".

He said he was legally prevented from speaking out and was left with the impression he would be "destroyed" if he disobeyed the order."

She can deny the accusations all she likes, but I think that firing him and then legally shutting him up so that he can't bring to light how badly it was being run says it all.

I get the impression that in organisations like the NHS and government (social workers, etc), senior executives are hired more on political correctness considerations rather than whether they have any actual ability to do the job.

I think it is friends of friends more than that mate. If you hire someone who is friendly and incompetent then they are a) less likely to have the intelligence to highlight your own incompetence and b) Less likely to highlight it because you would highlight theirs.

Cronyism... but yes in my opinion too, skill and talent to do the job very rarely come into it.

Jon Snow has got hold of Bower, evidently, and the results in 30mins on C4 News are well worth watching we are told

I'm sure you're right and there is undoubtedly lots of cronyism.

Shame it wasn't the other Jon Snow that got a hold of her :)
