Scotland vote

From a selfish domainer perspective I think separation from the UK dilutes the .UK 'brand' in a holistic way.

Scotland might only be 9% etc but long term, in the sense to those looking into the 'UK' we're now not quite as stable as we once were, more disjointed - any sort of uncertainty can't be good for markets.

I think .uk will eventually become a great brand extension, the same as .de
and the breakup if it happens (I don't think it will ) though not desirable would not be a huge problem for the extension.

Do you wear a kilt George?

I do on special occasions. I wear Grant tartan because of my Mum.

Don't know if anyone will remember the singer Jesse Rae, but he wears full Highland battle dress every day of the year - not just in his videos. I've even seen him at school meetings complete with helmet and Claymore. Seriously!

Not being an expert on these things. I am wondering what the currency outcome would be for an independent Scotland.
I don't think the UK could afford to see an Independent Scotland fail, no more than they wish the Republic of Ireland to suffer economic distress.
Any ideas.

I favour keeping the pound without a currency union, at least for the foreseeable future, but obviously it's not up to me!

I don't understand why they want to keep things like the pound. If they really want independence, surely it should be a pack your bags & leave arrangement (obviously not all in 1 go otherwise everything will fall apart on day 1)

Time to get a .scot domain reseller account?

I think eventually they would want to join the Euro, although you could argue that they would then be surrendering their independence again.

An independent Scotland would be entitled to a new two-letter country code top-level domain.

Agreed, bet there will be a lot of people trying to clean up on .scot before an official one gets organised though :)

That is certainly dedication, I love Scotland, I climbed Ben nevis once George when I was about 15 and nearly fell of the top it was snowing and i couldnt see the edge.

How can Scotland be independant by joining the EU which rules are then made in Brussels, The UK is coming out of the EU with thanks from Nigel Farage

Ukip leader Nigel Farage has called on the Queen to intervene in the Scottish independence referendum.

Buckingham Palace issued a statement earlier this week saying the monarch was "above politics".

The palace said it was "categorically wrong" to suggest she would wish to influence the vote in next week's referendum.

But speaking on LBC radio, Mr Farage said it could be argued that the Queen had a responsibility to speak.

The Ukip leader, who will be holding a rally in Glasgow later, said: "I completely understand her wanting to keep out of politics and she has done it brilliantly over 60 years.

"But there are times where if the United Kingdom, over which she is the monarch, is threatened itself, it might be right for her to say something.

"Let's say we got to this Sunday and it was still 50/50 in the polls, I personally think she should say something."

Mr Farage said there was a precedent for the Queen intervening because she addressed independence in her Silver Jubilee speech in 1977.

Should swing it.

In the event of a yes vote the SNP have promised to reduce the 5ADay to 3

:p

Feels like there has been far more coverage of the Yes campaign for some reason over the last few days - not sure why the BBC are taking this stance.

Funny that because the 'yes' campaigners have been claiming the BBC being bias in favour of the no's.

Stupid question maybe

But if Scotland do vote yes, will they stop having to pay the TV license to the BBC?

Good point wonder will they be able to have there own satellite system and be able to show 3pm football as well like Ireland

I see ordinary Scottish folks being asked all the time what their opinion is on the vote obviously as they are the voters but I think it would be interesting to see what ordinary English people think as well.

We sent two jags johny up and he suggested a combined England Scotland football team to beat the Germans.
He would have got more support up there if he'd have suggested a Scotland German team to beat England.

I don't think Scotland would be able to just walk away from is share of debt if we didn't let me use the £. If they did, i don't think they would ever have any chance of getting into the euro and would find it very hard to lend any money being know as a government that says f*uck it were not paying :). .

I hope Scotland stays with the UK, its a great place with great people.

Some people's view on the Scottish economy if they vote yes is so bleak you'd think we're going to end up with the Scottish being England's Mexicans. :p

For what it's worth, I hope Scotland vote yes, and they're successful as an independent country.

All the "scaremongering" aside.

I wonder how the party political system would evolve over the next 20 years.
They would have to get strong party leadership to govern effectively and survive in their new world, no good having new age travellers or brave heart supporters running their economy.
Could it be easier for Trotskyites to gain support of 51% of a small population in a recession promising equality for all when they really mean everybody shares nothing.

It does appear that it is a socialist yes, or a capitalist no.

We all know how socialists can waste resources to appease the people until eventually the chickens come home to roost.

Re the TV license, Holland and Belgium get BBC1 and 2 on their normal TV, so would assume this would work on the same arrangement in the short term
