I don't know why these sales aren't making it into DNJournal's sales charts, especially since they would take #2, #3 and #4 on the year-to-date chart. There's about 100x more attention paid there than there is in here (by the wider industry and beyond, I mean)...

Good PR

Doug your PR will be very good for my new business and very well timed....thanks in anticipation of more

Lee

Making an expenisve purchase has distinct PR advantages:) Good for Paul too mind....

Gents we are going to try and push this story so if you have any big sales you want to publicise then please PM me and we can add it to our stories.

We may create a market even more:)

Doug

Therefore was all the unhappiness expressed about the Sedo release just another part of the PR strategy to keep the story going?

Edwin,

I think Ron Jackson only reports sales when he can validate the financial transaction. Which, in this case the buyer & seller are not prepared to do.

Is there some doubt about the authenticity of the sale?

No doubt on my behalf, just stating DNJournal's reporting policy.

If DNJ didn't authenticate reported sales they could include my sale of

DotBizRecordBreakingDomainSalesFigure.biz for £500,000 :):)

Yes indeedy :)

Mr. Jackson has a good policy.

Whether or not

Whether or not the buyer and seller want to verify the sale via Beasty an IP lawyer (thats if beasty agrees) is up to them....I think it would be good for the industry.....a verified sale is exactly what it is.

Sedo have verified £1.5 million in sales in the last year but not this sale....I am surprised Sedo did not disclose this fact in its press release notes.

this is because it was a private sale and sedo had nothing todo with it.

It probably didn't make it because it was not a sale of a domain:rolleyes:

Yes the domain name played a big part in the sale but it was a website etc.. why does everyone on here keep on and on and on calling it a domain sale.

Let it be reported as a domain sale, as it can only help us all, but on here we all know different, don't we?

Can you imagine a plot of land being bought for £100,000 then having a house built on it, then being sold for £500,000 and everyone saying. Wow that land has just been sold again for £500,000 so my land must be worth that now, I'm rich:cool:

hey Doug,

Was in Scarborough yesterday and the bins there have a massive recycle logo plus the word "recycle" in 3 inch by 10 inch letters. I was going to take a photo for the forum but thought that the people i were with would take the piss so i didn't. I'm so peer pressured.

Paul thats wrong

Running a mysql doesn't increase value....a good generic taken in the raw state is worth as much as a developed name....in the sense of 'developed generically'. A trend is clear to me....if the tin says pilchards then pilchards will be on the front page of search engines for pilchards.....lol

It ain't rocket science to get your pilchard swimming to the surface for food....pilchards will increase in value cause we all like them

umm.....this may sound a bit fishy

Lee

we didnt buy it for the site there

But admittedly we did buy a plot of land and a house....the house we will probably knock down........isnt that the same as many of the doamin sales though, even if they juts have parking pages on them. Palcae or a tinhut, both will be knocked down.....so the base value is in the name......for PR most definitely anyway.

LOL nice one Doug

Will you also be scrapping the high speed train line to London ie the Google rankings and throwing away the money you found under the floorboards (it's user database)?

I never noticed those things:) The press dont understand those things, so we never mentioned them. They wanted a story about domain name sales, its what they got.

PR:) we love it.

Doug

The mass media are a shocking bunch of generalists. I'm surprised they can even spell correctly. A good lesson in never believing what the press has to say on any subject.

Doug, have you noticed a spike in traffic since all this newspaper publicity hit the streets? Can you talk percentage increases?

I think AcornDomains should feature in your press releases?

Just a couple of times.

i.e. title and first paragraph!

Doug

I have no problem with you calling it the biggest domain sale in the press, quite the opposite. I admire what you have done and think it will help us all to achieve better prices. I just find it strange that people on here are so blinkered sometimes that they don't see the real facts.

Domain + Site + Rankings + Users + Backlinks + existing revenue - Does not equal a domain sale

What would be an interesting discussion is how much people think the domain contributed to the final price (the real final price ie ex vat;))
