Nominet Board Election

For Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I must say I am probably not the best person to ask. Despite all that has been said I do respect the views of the following two people:-

I was told by a well respected person in the domain name world the following 'You are a f****** s***** little b****** who might be a big wheel in the mortgage business but does not have a clue in the domain business, go and **** yourself you little *****!'

AND

As James explained 'get a life; and more importantly; get a clue'

Anyway here's my view:-

I am sure you will decide to devote more time to your good studies than Nominet....Join the PAB first

Gordon seems to be well respected and I get this feeling he doesn't think buying a domain name is like buying a washing machine.

Lord Erroll joined the PAB a year ago and therefore cannot be held responsible for what happened before....fresh face linked closely to Parliament is good....my only concern is he maybe persuaded that buying a domain name is like buying a washing machine....especially if he meets regularly with washing machine backers

Just an opinion and not factual....

I am sure the form doesn't require you to put 1 to 6 in if you don't wish, I interpreted the form as saying you can vote in preference for upto the full 6.

That is correct.

With Single Transferrable Vote (STV) you number your preferences but you do not place numbers next to people you simply wouldn't want to see elected under any circumstances because there is always a chance that will be taken as a positive vote for them if circumstances are right and the votes have been re-distributed. Of course if you are happy with all candidates but just have preferences then you can use all the numbers but equally you can only label 1 or 2 people as your preferences if you want.

Actually I mis-read the form as I thought it indicated you could only vote for 2 candidates? Did anybody esle think that from the way it was written?

Stephen.

Oh well - must be me!

Stephen.

Stephen

I did read it a couple of times just to make sure I understood it. :)

This is one area where I think Nominet is quite good. The written communications are generally explicit and clear. The contract of domain registration, for example, does have many multi clause sentences, and while it is a licence for Nom to do almost whatever it feels like doing, it is at least clear. The DRS Policy and Procedure documents are similarly so.

Hi Andrew,

Lee ...

It becomes impossible to ignore your comments when you associate my name with some of the objectionable stuff you quote. Will you please stop linking my name to other people's alleged slurs on yours!? The innuendo is such that it makes me look guilty by association and I had nothing to do with the tirade of profanity you quote. So please; think before you link.

For the benefit of this forum;
  • 1. James was not the person who swore at you (and as an aside, I cannot understand how you can say you still respect someone who would have treated you like this).
  • 2. James may indeed have suggested you 'get a life and more importantly a clue' (sounds like me) though it was probably because of the confusing way in which you jumble up the issues.

Anyway here's my view:-

I am sure you will decide to devote more time to your good studies than Nominet....Join the PAB first

Gordon seems to be well respected and I get this feeling he doesn't think buying a domain name is like buying a washing machine.

Lee

Well at least you had the good grace to say "opinion and not factual" at the end.

Analogies are not factual either.
NB: The only reference I remember making to washing machines was an analogy. Other people on this forum use analogies all the time and you allow them to do so to make their point. So please, instead of continuing with the ludicrous suggestion that I think a domain name is like a washing machine, think before you link; and let's discuss the issues rationally, respectfully, and without malice.

Regards
James Conaghan

James

Ok James....I did say two people and I forgive you both to some degree.

The first person I respect and he is clearly a clever business person but he didn't need to swear...

As for you James (second person) I do respect your views and opinions and we beg to disagree BUT I feel disappointed that I have been branded the person who made Nominet leave.....on that basis I must clear my name.

Lee

Lee,

I'm sure I could fit six board meetings a year and nomsteer into my studies. I'm even fitting in two days at the AGM in London next week.

You could say the same about any of the candidates?

For example you could say Lord Eroll is a busy person and should be spending his time in the House of Lords?

How do you find the time to write posts on here when you could be out selling mortgages ?

Andrew

Hello. I'm over here. Can anyone hear me?

Don't worry Lee we haven't left yet.

Experience

Andrew you wrote 'For example you could say Lord Eroll is a busy person and should be spending his time in the House of Lords?

I write:- Lord Eroll is well connected....you have to penetrate deep into Government to get anything done around here.

When chips are down arses move fast

Ah mortgages....well my story goes back along way...about 7 years. Buy to let boomed when the web boomed. I said to myself this web thing looks amazing but so does my buy to let idea...anyway I bought about 1500 domain names on credit cards whilst waiting for the mortgage phone to ring...back then good old easyspace were advertising in the financial mail on sunday...about £20 .co.uk and £30 .com. Uk2 were selling cheaper but looked dodgy cause they had a sales pitch that said 'free'.

Anyway back to the point....I always had an ambition to own numerous businesses with a massive office employing many staff and saw the Landlord Mortgages as a first step.....bloody first step it took my 7 years to release myself from the day to day running....So in answer to your statement....my mortgage business (at last) runs itself so my time has come to diversify.....my time is now devoted to online work.

Lee

You are who

Jay are you also a Trade Mark Attorney, can you answer 'rights' questions on Acorn on behalf of Nominet??
