I wasn't primarily interested in the web site related market, more the email market where there is a stronger benefit to the end user, just like number portability on your mobile phone or land line...

The same issues apply, whether there is a webspace or use of the address for identity

could / would the average joe be able to make the tech changes to use it

IMO its too limited, adults in general wouldn't have the knowledge, kids/teens wouldn't want to pay and would rather play on msn etc (I aksed me son to take a poll taken on msn)

maybe new conservative as well, if youve seen the latest logo

Only if you don't think outside the box. :p

I understand why you get to where you do in that logic, but I think there may be more imaginative ways of doing things that can be explored there.

Ultimately if we try, we may succeed, if we don't try we definately won't. If we succeed registrants and industry benefit...

The box is not limited by technos rather the educational standard of those who register.

You may also be right about imaginative ways, yet limitations on what nominet are able to do, could prohibit their use.

It would be fool hardy to suggest otherwise. Products have to be brought to market. what would be interesting is the rate of registration / renew against the number of domains that lapse. In other words, is .me.uk a dead duck financially.

The Register have a news item on the Elections, Internet head honchos prepare for election | The Register

They haven't got their facts quite right though:
Andrew Bennett, who runs the website Deleting.co.uk, which offers for sale soon-to-expire internet domain names, as well as a popular forum for the UK internet community, and who has vowed to make the domain resale efforts "acceptable business models".

I just read that to Fred, I was happy with it apart from the words "for sale" lol But "soon-to-expire" is close enough.

I've cast my vote and indicated my preferences.

When are the results announced?

Lord Erroll sounds like a decent chap. Perhaps he could be encouraged to become a dropcatcher, no?

Merlin Hay is his name yeah.

At the moment people are just labeling him a "Lord" and me a "Domainer" - see Nomsteer.

Gutterish.

Now I know why the name (not 'Merlin' (lets forget that), but 'Lord Erroll') was somehow familiar. The 22nd Lord Erroll.

Opinion

If I was a member I would vote for Lord Erroll and Gordon Dick

You have to actually put everyone in order (in order of preference) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6

Hope i'm not 6th on your list Lee ;)

I am sure the form doesn't require you to put 1 to 6 in if you don't wish, I interpreted the form as saying you can vote in preference for upto the full 6.

I also read it this way. It doesn't say you have to indicate all six preferences. I indicated only three.
