Afternoon Adam,

I've updated your user status now, thanks. Please bear with me everyone, I'll let you know when I've put together the details of membership levels and features. I will layout as simply as I can what free membership inlcludes (less than now) and what paid membership includes.

I would try & give a bit before you start taking too much away.
TBH there aint alot left here to see as it is.

Free members will still be able to read everything they can now. :)

If you are trading and selling here and you want the forum to be improved and not stagnate then I think it's fair those members pay a few quid a month. It's about being realistic not money grabbing. People interested in buying domains and engaging in domain related discussions and the other discussions that carry on here will be entitled to keep the free account. Signature links and posting items for sale should carry a small, flat membership fee. There will be no charge per post, sale or auction.

It'll be interesting to see how those changes affect activity on the site.

I certainly wont be paying monthly to sell domain names on here.

I can understand charging for signatures, but I'm not too sure about the paying to trade.

On the one hand I can see forum activity nosediving, but on the other, the quality of domains being offered for sale I think would be better, with more realistically priced BINs rather than the endless offers invited threads we get now. But I don't think there will be a big surge in people wanting to pay for the privilege.

Interesting to see how it pans out!

Why? What is the obsession with free. You want a better forum that requires marketing, twitter and facebook ad campaigns, you want responsive design and xenforo. When I was more active in domains, I found this forum and paid £100 for a years subscription without hesitation. You pay for domainlore. You pay for services in life if they are of value to you. Why such a strong feeling against paying a penny for supporting the site that facilitates your business.

Hardly any domain names sell on here for anything more than £15 at the moment, so whats the point? Either list on domainlore or contact end users directly.

and you only pay on domainlore if the domain name doesn't sell.

You sound down beaten by the market, I'm attempting to be positive. The domain name industry is at a low eb, most things are cyclical and I expect the same with domains. It might not be quick but it will improve. I'd prefer not to let AD rot and hope that view is shared by some even if not all. But really Mat, I understand, if the small fee is not worth it to you....you won't pay it. I hope you decide that it is.

I'm not down beaten and I don’t want to sound negative about the forum, but buying and selling domain names on here is not what is used to be and I doubt many will be happy to pay a monthly fee. It is mainly used for discussion these days with any proper sales being made through other venues.

I don’t think any amount of marketing will revive the sales on this forum that went when the "EMD bubble burst". Regular £xxx sales of domains between members that were happening on a daily basis in the past now can’t be flogged for £5. Thats just how it is and will stay.

Thats not to say that there arn't going to be good sales on here every so often but will a monthly fee be worth it to the average user on here?

All just my opinion of course.

That's fine, no one has to pay. Discussion is free, like I've said. If you want extras then you can support the forum. Fact is some people are successfully earning from use of AD, these members don't want to see it go downhill. They also want threads removing and various other things doing, they need to show willing :). I think we've exhausted this one.

I rarely post domains for sale on here, only links to domainlore where for the most part, sales are free. I can't see the justification tbh, but appreciate that the site must keep rolling.
