Lee, how do you know he's broken the algorithm ?

What I want to know is, isn't people moaning the he's got an advantage over them, the exact same situation between Tag vs No Tag ? An advantage is an advantage.

Do you know 100% sure that he is getting EVERY name he goes for ?

He could just have a MASSIVE time delay quota and be using that as well as his instant dac.

If Dale (I assume he doesnt yet) was use both DACs he HAS to be able to scan at 10-15 a second, same for Chris and Denys and I guess for Grant too.

Does anyone currently use both dac's or no one bothered to decode yet ?

I'm not getting every name I go for :(

I'm not using the time delay quota although I've already thought of that one but don't have a huge quota to play with (otherwise I'd give it a go), but those with large portfolios or large customer bases will have a large quota to play with (I did actually bring this up on Nomsteer many months ago as the "big registrars" or those with cash in the bank could in effect buy quota giving them additional advantage over the little guy)

It would be good if I had cracked the secret Nominet algorithm :)

I re-wrote my catch engine and then changed it to a new host a little while back, nothing more, nothing less, no voodoo or other black magic involved, just code.

It's supposedly random so can't see the need to change it. if people find patterns then yes they would or should.

I talk to a developer from a large hosting/registrar company, he wouldn't give me exact numbers because he wasn't give them but he estimated there would be 100k domains at least on the tags (they have 3 tags he knew about from when they have merged and taken over other companies).

Anyway he was saying they are recoding their catching service last week, I saw him online a few hours ago and suggested the delayed dac to him, they are already using it. Assuming their catching code is good, and if his guesses are accurate, I think we maybe about to see an ISP catching the midway names due to that immense delay quota.

I can't remember the thread but there were people warning of this some time ago with the big isp's hovering up the middle names.

Infact I remember Denys posting on that very subject 4-5 months ago.

Depends which avenue they take, rent to clients, sell with hosting packages etc.

Yup, I remember that, but wasn't sure if I read it on acorn.

I think this is now on its way to reality.

Lee, They are doing a drop catching service, public facing.

Surely this massive quota will mean taking more money out of your pocket ? £6 to you now, or £30-90 (based on current costs from DS/Caught to DR), which means your costs go up 100s of percent.

From memory, I posted something here and Nomsteer, I also raised it directly with Nominet.

Why can a large ISP buy companies and combine DAC quotas but other can't co-operate? So much for the level playing field that Nominet want us to believe there is. Perhaps it is time for the dog & cat to buy a Nominet membership after all :)

Yep you are right, that is the way it is heading unfortunately. Only thing is that when we have all spent £10k getting out pets tagged up, Nom will change the system. Infact they are going to have to change the system, we all know it, it's just a matter of time.

But this one is a very simple fix as you and others have said in previous posts, simple make the delay longer.

Saying that I got the feeling that many things at Nom were on hold until that new tech guy got in position, sometime around now. So could be worth raising it again as soon as people know this guy has started.

Foz, I'll ask him if he is ok with me naming his company, don't wanna get him in trouble or anything.

There is a member on here who works for another big registrar who was talking about a domainer services so maybe they are thinking about it too. He doesn't post much since pseudo-overlords attacked the hell of him tho.
