Making a Domain earn £1 a week

So you're saying develop as many sites as I've got domains, only tweek each one so that it caters for different keywords?

Yep. Thing is if you try and cover too many terms or too loosely with one site surely it'll miss the point entirely. Whereas the real beauty with these mini sites is the niche keywords strings. (I think). Might be back in a month with a different view mind you!

Less is definitely more. I think.

hi all,

this is such an interesting thread.

since starting to follow it i've setup a number of minisites - the first three are already ranked on the first page of Google. Not a high income from them just yet but it's early days.

i'm finding that you should just aim for a very specific keyphrase and then move on. i'm still fine tuning and learning. the beauty of them is that once they're setup and optimised they just keep earning!

thank to all for your advise!

I usually optimise for and target the keyword or phrase in the domain name:

Ie. Mildew, Chancel

Then formulate an article around the subject of that keyword or phrase, you will then find yourself ranking well for your main keyword / phrase AND picking up (depending on the length and quality of your article) lots of long tail traffic for all manner of search terms.

Considering this is one of the most infomative, interesting and useful thread on the board and people are still searching for it I have made this a sticky.

If anyone has had any more experiences on this topic since their last post please keep us all informed!

Rich :)

cream puff transfer t shirts monkey nuts

good idea rich... ;)

having it as a sticky will hopefully allow any noobs not to fall into the "parking" trap and make a lot more out of an affiliate mini site, optimized in the correct manner...:-D

I tried 5 sites about 3 weeks ago, all are on the first or second page of google, one isn't..

Added to what i wrote.. All contents is roughly the same, I just changed the names of photos etc etc all are getting hits and earning

I have just put up 5 mini sites - all good domains with traffic and competitive areas.

So far (and it's only been a couple of weeks) my revenue compared to sedo parking has dropped between 1 and 2 orders of magnitude . . .

And, as far as I can tell, alot of the earnings I had on other sites in my same ggl adsnse account have dropped too.

So I think either:

a) I have jumped into a lower ranked google bracket that doesn't pay out so much now that the average quality of my sites are not so good.

b) A competitive domain is probably better parked or developed really well because just being a minisite will get nowhere and does not have so good a click through ratio as a parked site.

c) The sedo parking has auto correcting keyword selection that improves over time, so my minisites aren't picking up the best keywords.

d) google hasn't really optimised the delivery of the ads yet.

e) being on sedo gets alot more targeted traffic.

or all of the above.

Things I can do:
Make it more than a minisite.
Design better click through page.
Change to yahoo feed where I have better control of the keywords
Separate my minisites into a different adwords account (or change to yahoo as above)

or just sit and wait with some minor tweaks and stop trying to judge these things immediately.

Just thought I'd let you know that it's not all up with minisites especially to begin with - though I'm still going to move all of them away from parking!

Design better click through page.

I think your problem lies here...

Can you give an example of your ministes? Or are they in your sig?

I can see from the sites in your sig the problem is your ad targetting. I think ad placement and utilisation is causing low and limited click through rate...

A question on adsense.

Is it better to have 1 account used on multiple sites with dynamic ad generation? Or is it better having 1 adsense account per site?

Do google have limitations on this, and can multiple ones be done using the same name?

S

You are only allowed one account per person/business so miltiple accounts can get you in trouble if they spotted it.

Just use 1 account, think Google are on the ball here, they won't allow more than 1 account per address (i think) - you can add URL's to monitor if you need to see what income is coming in per site (max 200 sites)

OK, so to give everyone an update on my experiences over the past 6 weeks, as I learn't a lot from the thread it's only fair isn't it!

Have now got 130 sites up and running - took 1 month. Using a template which makes building it very quick and reduces the time for one big mini site (www.peterandre.co.uk) to 1 hour, and one mini site (www.traintimes.me.uk) to 40 mins. OK, hard work and boring but the first half months sites are all earning £1 per week, some (finance, loans) ones are earning more than £2 per day - on new domains which is great.

Things I have learnt:
1. do them quick and move on. If you look back a week later and don't like the colour, so what. Use the hour you would have by building a new one.
2. target by search string, no point building a site about "green penguins from outer leeds" when no one will ever search, even if you have www.greenpenguinsfromouterleeds.co.uk, scrap it waste of time
3. targetted affiliate i think will pay off (www.audi-carinsurance.co.uk)
4. link back to your main directory site
5. use a free web submitter site only once per site, submitting all the time pisses Google off (thats how i look at it)
6. get a reseller account in the uk (pay well) and only use .uk domains
7. work hard might pay off

Hope this helps a few of you!! :-D

ratboy - great post, do you write all of the content yourself.

What free web submitter do you use? and did you design your template yourself?

I try to, the content is some from wikipedia and some from inside my head (be scared). I like cars/sports so tend to stick to cars and sports at the moment.

There are lots of free web submission sites around - mine is a secret!

Paid a pro to design the template, although its not the BBC in terms of design, simple is quick!

You can have as many sites as you like running adsense from one account. You can set upto 200 URL channels to divide your earnings to see how your sites are performing.

this is the best thread on this forum and I have picked up some great tips from it !

Keep up the good work

I have to agree with the general consensus, this is a fantastic thread!!!

Alternatively if you are happy with your current provider, then why not ask them to remove the 1 domain limit, with most hosting control panels it's only a minute or 2's work to make the change.

Does anyone know if this is possible with 123-reg?

Cheers,

C

thanks rjs,

the sites aren't in my sig, but ad targetting is the main problem I think.

nice post ratboy!

Hi A

If ad targeting is the problem it might be worth trying Yahoo ads, however, they do not pay as well as Google ads that are targeted. If you do try them you will probably find earnings will go down after a few days. If you make £10 a day to start expect it to fall to about £3-5 per day.
