Hello,
I was hoping someone might have the answer to this since my memory isn't what it used to be - please!

I'm sure that I read a few years back about a (or a handful of) major retailers, e.g. like Debenhams or whoever, who held hundreds or thousands of keyword rich domains that they had 301'd to the pages on their website.

Does anyone know of any that still do this, and any examples of the types of domains they use?

Trying to explain it to someone and he doesn't get it, thought a practical demonstration might work better.

Thanks!

I think it were money supermarket, names like savings.co.uk and mortgages.co.uk, but I can't think of a high street company doing it.

Thanks Skinner, I thought there had been a few at it.

It's interesting how some big players have decent domains like British Gas do with gas, house etc, yet you rarely hear of the deals being done and how much for. I can't imagine these companies were any quicker to register than back in ~1996 than anyone else; unless they were held back by Nominet through prior assignment or auction?

@Edwin is the man with a list. I know he has a list on his memorabledomains site where he lists companies "who get it", be a good place to start.

Edit: http://memorabledomains.co.uk/companies-that-get-it.html

Another 100 here too...

(I've not checked the list for a couple of years though so it's bound to be out of date. But at least it's a starting point...)

And if you want more general (i.e. not particularly UK-specific) material about companies making good use of generics, here's a list I compiled of people commenting on how their generic domain benefitted their business...

Thanks guys, and thank you Edwin I should have thought to ask you!

Cheers,
Dave
