Nom steer indeed
Dear Andrew, maybe someone on nom-steer is steering you in the wrong direction...
You said 'This has already been posted on "nom-steer" and the story is...
Back in 1996 when Nominet was formed they let the name slip before registering the company. Someone registered Nomi.net Ltd and Nominet had to make do with "Nominet UK".... hey at least it wasn't Nomi@net Ltd !!!'
I say...
IF Nominet had registered Nominet Limited then nomi.net ltd would not be allowed to be registered at companies house cause companies house would say it was confusingly similar....punctuation remarks are removed
In contrast
IF Nominet had registered Nominet Limited then someone could still register nomi@net Limited
....so the Nominet rules are correct BUT incorrectly administered by Nominet.... Nominet first said they did not administer the rules as written, then changed this to state that they did check companies house for name and registration number ONLY BUT then the c.exec said they administered the rules as written but considered an @ sign to be punctuation...
Essays indeed....and reverse all contracts of registrations with an @ sign...or bring the policy into disrepute
